City Fido Rocks! I missed out on the long distance plan that Justin has but I did get the $30/6GB data plan so I don't think I'll be switching any time soon.
^ Question for justinbh2: Do you find you actually use the phone enough to warrant having the cityFido plan? And is it still limited to the network within major metropolitan areas?

You can just call me justin(justinbh is always taken in all the forums i post in hence the "2" appendage).
Yes, my use warrants having the plan. As I mentioned earlier, we, my wife and I, use about 300 minutes a month long distance calling LA, Texas, Edmonton and Lethbridge. Sometimes I also need to call friends in the Boston area and in Toronto.
It is due to this extensive use that I really appreciate having a plan like this to use. I plan to have the plan as long as I live or as long as fido lives. I am not tied to a contract.
If I ever start my own business then this plan will become even more valuable.
Also, to answer your other question: everything is unlimited within the metro Vancouver area, hence the "city fido" label. If I call LA outside of van then I need to pay long distance as well as roaming charges I believe. I'm usually always in the city or surrounding area so it works for me.
Well, specifically, I was asking if you use a lot of daytime minutes too, locally, that is. Because if you're just using the 300 mins a month, $90 would be paying a bit much.

I use the phone often everyday of the year(local and long distance). So even in that sense, it is well used.
With long distance alone I still think the plan is worth it. Also, when you factor in 3% inflation a year, the cost of other plans will eventually catch up.
My wife and I also use about 300 minutes of long distance to the states and the rest of canada each month for family. The plan more than pays for itself.
I also think your plan is a bit on the pricey side, but if you "think" it's worth it then that's all that matters. But hear me out and I'm only basing what I'm saying from what you've provided.
I've seen ads on the skytrain about yak.ca and they have an "unlimited" plan within Canada and the US that can be attached to a cellphone. They say unlimited, but it actually only amounts to 1500 min. I'm thinking that's more than enough. This costs $17.95, plus fees and whatever (I don't actually know about the extra fees, but i'm assuming...they're a telephone company, right?). So, unless your "extra" cellphone plan is >$70...I think i've provided a more economic plan that suits your needs. [Yak info]
didn't mean to put you in the spotlight and criticize you and your decision to stick with that phone plan etc, i meant it relevant to other plans i've seen. I can honestly say there was no intention on offending you in anyway, my apologies if there is a misunderstanding, my wording was fairly blunt in that sentence.
i'm just used to seeing plans that include the WORKS (obviously without the free calling within NA) like ..
250 minutes, 10000texts, unlimited early evenings/weekends free calling within the network voice mail caller id/display 6GB data BIS

for roughly $70-$80
no worries, i probably didnt make the unlimited in NA part obvious.
I pay around $32 after taxes for: 200 minutes unlimited evening/weekends from 6pm unlimited text messaging unlimited web browsing call wait caller id voice mail
For the telus guys, what are the chances of getting Super Talk10 through retentions?
You'd probably have to put up a bit of a fight. That being said, I've given it to clients before without them even asking because I was "optimizing" their plan. The thing is, it's technically a Manitoba-only plan, but the plan can be provisioned on any account. I say you just tell them you spoke with a rep before and that they brought it up. No harm in trying.
I think I have the same plan as the two of you except I have to pay extra for the caller ID and text messaging
how long have you been a fido/rogers customer? If you have been for more than 3 years, im sure you can get retention to pay for your caller-id and get you like 1000 free text.
so yesterday i called up fido cause i was getting charged for text msgs (i have unlimited text) and that they were charging me $7 for caller id when i had it for free before.. turns out that my contract expired in feb and hence where that $7 came from and now bill gets jacked up to $50ish after taxes.. i told them that i'd like to keep my monthly expense under $40 and the current plan (with the additional $7) was out of my budget.. and here is what they offered:
100 daytime mins U/L network calling (F2F/R) U/L evenings/wknds starting 5pm U/L text msging caller id and they waived my annoying SAF!!!
adds up to $30 + taxes with a 2 yr commitment.. suffice to say fido made my day..
So they're making you renew your contract, but you're not getting a hardware discount? You should've just gotten a free cheapo phone as well, and sell it.
i've actually never gotten a phone from fido except the time when i first signed a contract with them.. and considering the selection of phones fido offers i'm not too keen on getting a phone and selling it..
i'm not out there trying to leech something out of them.. my goal was to reduce my monthly bill while keeping all my options and i got what i wanted..=)
@ether: hahaha nope.. day not ruined since this happened yesterday..=p but yeah essentially it is the $25 plan except i'm not too sure if you get caller display with that.. i can't part with that now that i've had it for so long..=x
i'm with fido. My phone is the LG xenon. My plan got all the basic minutes and stuff and even unlimited text. I added caller id for a bit more but my monthly plan is 30 bucks.

That would be cool if I could.
If that's not it, the bday girl better elaborate or I'm gonna pull a justinbh2 on her criticism on us! Get it? Get it? :teeth:

I got same plan as you, expect for the web browsing. for 25.50 per month after all the taxes.

You've basically got the standard $25 plan, but for $5 more you're getting
- Fido-to-Fido
- Evenings start 2 hours earlier.
Seems fair to me.
