I use a pay-as-you go deal from Virgin.

I don't talk that much so I usually only end up paying about $15 per month. Sometimes I can even stretch the $15 up to 45 days before it expires.

I use the fido $10 pay as you go vouchers. So $10 every month for me.

I found out today about our special employee plan at TELUS, which actually sounds tempting.

    350 anytime minutes
    100 Canadian Long Distance minutes
    Unlimited Text messaging
    TELUS to TELUS calling
    Caller ID

All for the low low price of $0/mth

Of course, I still have to pay the SAF and 911, but even so, for unlimited text and the long distance, it's well worth it.

Have any of you looked into Koodo? They're by Telus, so I'm assuming the reception will be the same...and their plans look super cheap. I wonder if the phones in store are better than the ones they show online...

  • edited April 2008
most of the "good" plans are for non gsm phones... go figure ;)

Why would you get a plan with phones that can't have a SIM???

    Anyways, I'm with Rogers.

    100 weekday / 1000 Eve/Weekend Plan
    50 Minute Call Bonus
    Unlimited Network Calling (Rogers2Rogers, Rogers2Fido, Fido2Rogers)
    Free Incoming Texts

    Basic plan for $25/month

    + Communication Pkg $10

    125 Texts
    Call Display
    Voice Mail

$35 / month + taxes, and some other fees... so around $40 / month.

I'm gonna chop the extra pkg soon because I don't text much anymore, and I don't need voice mail.

I need the network calling though, for sure. That's the whole reason why I have the plan. All my friends are either Rogers/Fido, as well as my BF, so it's worth it.

thats why i said most of the tempting and good plans are for non GSM phones... because,
    1. they can charge when u want to switch phones to move all ur crap over or swap numbers etc. i know this for a fact since TELUS tried to rip my ex off in this fashion
    2. With a non GSM phone if u decide to leave the country they can charge u w/e the wish for roaming and there is nothing u can do about it (with a GSM phone if u have 1/2 a brain u buy a new simcard from the country ur in drop 10$ on it and talk foreveeeeeerrr)

in conclusion ... PPL STOP BUYN NON GSM PHONES! aka from telus, virgin, etc..etc.. (non sim card phones)
why? cuz its a shttier technology and it’s not employed in most of the world heck TELUS even considered switching into the GSM market...

^ It's outdated. Period. You're stuck with the same crappy phone for 3 years, even if it breaks you can't change it.

so when my contract expires i can threaten to go somewhere else and they will bend the rules??

^ u can even do it b4 ur contract runs out

if u speak of just advertised plans from retail outlets, then maybe

but the best plans are prob from rogers and fido through their retentions department
