Fall Enrollment Dates

Any idea when we will get these? For some reason I'm paranoid I won't get a date because I didn't register for Summer semester. Do you have to pay the $100 deposit before you get a enrollment date?

I'm feeling out of the loop since I've been in a different country!

no, you dun have to pay before you get your enrollment date. you just have to pay the $100 deposit before you enroll. we haven't got our dates yet.... aren't they supposed to be end of July to mid-August??

wayy too early for fall enrollment...but they do always seem to come really quickly

Go view your advising transcript in go.sfu. It's not updated yet as of this post, but your enrollment date will show up on there even before your get the email.

What dates did you guys get? And when does enrollment start? There are specific courses I want this term so I can apply to PDP in January... I really want to get in!

It's based on grades. But I think it's kind of silly because then you end up in classes you don't really want (because yours may be full at that time), and then your grades suffer because you aren't interested... and the cycle continues.

Yay, I have a low GPA which means I get to go first! It's like parking in the handicapped parking spot, but actually being handicapped, so it's okay! =)

My GPA isn't THAT low..... =(

I think we have this conversation every semester and no one really knows the answer!

I've been looking through some stuff on the SFU site. If you search for "enrolment dates", it comes up with a transcript of a bunch of student comments about registration dates and how they didn't get the courses they wanted. Seems they're all asking how it's calculated too. Nobody seems to know, and SFU doesn't seem to want to divulge that information for some reason.

I sincerely hope it's not based on grades, because according to my registration date, I'm in the lowest 15%-20%. That's unpossible!

i asked before and was told its based on credits and then to further divide up the people who all have the same amount of credits it goes by grades (unless you have a scholarship, then you are first regardless of credits). so if you have the exact same credits as someone else, you should have the same date (give or take a day) but at different times depending on your cgpa.

Enrollment is based on grades and the number of credits one has.

More credits = sooner date
Better grades = sooner date

I guarantee that for those people getting their dates on the first few days have easily over 110 credits. I believe grades do make a difference but only in terms of the time you get (if you have the same number of credits as someone but better grades, you'll have maybe a head start of a few hours on that other person). However, it's the number of credits that really affects when you'll be allowed to register.

It's not like this whole matter is some sort of conspiracy or classified information. If you've been at university for a while, you'll know how the game is played.

It depends on grades and credits, but scholarship holders automatically get the very first date.

Yep, its based on grades and on GPA. The better you have in both, the sooner your date will be. And it only makes sense that students with more credits have an earlier date because they NEED to get into certain courses to get their degree and get the hell out of school already.

I'm entering second year and I got July 26th at 7:30. I've heard that second years tend to get screwed. As far as the grades are concerned, I don't get what's goin on. I'm not tryig to b conceded or anything, but I worked really hard and managed to keep up an A- average, so I would hope to not be completely at the bottom of the GPA ranks. Anyways, part of the reason I worked so hard was so that I could keep getting good enrollment dates. I would imagine that other people may be in the same position. IMO it just seems fair that if you're given a good enrollment date, enroll in classes you want, and subsequently get good grades, you should be given at least slightly higher priority as a payoff for hard work. It would AT LEAST be nice to know exactly how they are calculating the enrollment.

Edit* Anyone know if there is any way to talk to someone up at SFU and see why their enrollment dates are when they are? Can we debate them at all, or is it just set in stone??

yeah i've heard about this as well, but I'm not too sure how much it plays a role in it. it makes logical sense though!

ps. I'm going into 2nd year, enrollment date is July 26th, 4:30pm.
kinda sucks cuz i've been working my bootie for my GPA and it hasn't done too much for me in terms of enrollment. though i have to say that i've never had trouble enrolling in classes with a late date! the only problem is getting a good tutorial time...
