It depends on what you think is "better". If you're interested in learning about evolution, ecology, and vice versa, BISC 102 is for you. If you took biology 11 in high school, it's quite similar, with some new things you'll learn. Labs for this course is open book.
If you're interested in cellular processes of animals and plants, BISC 101 is for you. I found this course to be more interesting than BISC 102, although I didn't think I'd be more interested when I decided to take it. I'm all for evolution but the in-depth material in 102 was too much for me. Well, not exactly too much, but too boring. http://www.bestcorner.ca/pets
In terms of difficulty, I think I'd generally say 101 is harder. Labs are not open book, but the labs you do are so much more hands-on than 102 in my opinion.
Onkar Bains is a good prof to take 101 with.
Not sure about 102, but for the summer semester, it seems like Onkar is teaching 102 as well.
