CRIM 104 with Cartwright

edited May 2013 in General
Has anyone on here taken this course? I'm currently enrolled in it (dist ed version) and wondering what to expect on the mid-term and final.

He already said the exams consist of 10 M/C questions, 5 T/F questions, 5 definition questions, and 1 short answer question but wanted to know if he focuses mostly on major concepts and theories or if hes more specific than that??

  • The definition questions are the major concepts but watch out for the midterm it is randomized but you might get some more specific definition questions such as of some sub-theories. The MC and TF are pretty specific tbh. Never had it dist ed. but you shoulda taken it with him in normal lecture because it's probably wayyyy easier.

Main tip: STUDY HIS LECTURE NOTES.

What do you mean be randomized? Like every students gets different questions like he does with the tutorial quizzes?

I hate the course reader because its written by the theorists (and therefore hard to understand), are there any questions that he asks from the course reader that aren't covered in his notes/vocab?
  • I actually forgot what I meant by randomized hahaha I wrote that really late at night when I was super tired but I think I meant like the theories and definitions you need to define and describe are completely random.

    For your second question-- no.

Study his notes back to back thoroughly, and you will succeed.
  • @Smythsfu I dislike the course reader too lol.

Is the short answer question theory based or what?
  • Yes it usually is a compare and contrast question where you basically just gotta write everything you know about the theories. Or it could also be a question about a movie watched in lecture which I guess you won't get that since it's dist ed.
  • I didn't even read the textbook at all (except for the paper to include paraphrases/quotations lol) and I still got an A. Just study his muthafuckin sick ass notes. That is, if you actually wrote them all down.
  • haha I wasn't trying to condescend I should've specified I was talking to OP lol.

Well I got an A+ in 103 without even cracking open the textbook so it's probably possible to get an A+ in barry's classes without reading it.

It was the midterm that made my grade severely drop in that course because 1. It was the same day as 103 which I focused on 103 more in studying because of being scared by it's difficulty from ratemyprof and 2. I had 3hrs of sleep for that midterm
  • I don't even purchase textbooks anymore I just borrow them from friends who've taken the course previously for term assignments.
  • 103 with Boyanowsky?
  • no. heard that dude is butt. I took it with the sexy cougar milf Jennifer Wong.
