so.... Mr. Campbell resigned as Premier.. what next?
http://www.cbc.ca/canada/british-columbia/story/2010/11/03/bc-premier-gordon-campbell.html?ref=rss
personally.. i think it's about time he stepped down.. that is not to say i have beef with him.. campbell is a competent man and he's done great things in the past.. but for the last few years i feel he's lost sight of what constitutes as the 'best interests' of the province..
i must say it was rather smart of him step down as opposed to having someone bring him down.. that would've been both an ugly scene and an ugly mark on his political career.. with HST forever etched as his biggest failure.. lol..
the resignation really caught me off guard.. i wasn't expecting him to do that so soon after just issuing a province wide telecast.. but now that's all said and done.. i'm more worried on who's gonna take his place because honestly.. i don't see anyone competent enough to take on the job right now.. =x
thoughts? opinions? speculation on what's gonna happen next?
share away! =)

I'm not sure who I'd like to see replace him, it will be interesting to see what happens. And the NDP have to get rid of Carole James.
i'm actually more of an ndp supporter than i am a liberal supporter, but overall i think gordon campbell has done a superb job as premier of bc. it's not popular to be a campbell supporter at this point in time but i'll go out on a limb and say he's been the best thing to happen to bc in the past 10 years (since harcourt). look at how much bc has changed and progressed... objectively
most importantly, we haven't felt any real effects from the global recession in bc. the rest of the world is so messed up right now, especially america where houses are selling for half of what they did a few years ago. in bc, house prices are still going up! we had an excellent olympics. tourism in bc is up significantly. there's construction going on everywhere, including roads, schools and bridges (don't deny it). plus more
i would say the hst was needed. and in fact, it's not even as bad as it's been made out to be. the income tax cut wasn't necessarily needed, but campbell did it anyways in the hopes that ppl would back off a little about the hst, and they still weren't happy. why, because theirs some people you can never make happy. you can give them welfare, employment insurance, free housing, and everything else but they'll just never be happy because their on the wrong side of the fence.
moral of the story, make sure your on the right side of the fence (financially) that way it doesn't matter who the premier is or what's going on with the economy. simple as that. that's my opinion, i'd love to hear more
@Simon: yeah.. i also think bc is screwed and it doesn't help that the media is fueling the idea that Vancouver is gonna be the next 'it' city with international investors lining up to invest in this city.. personally, i think that's bogus..=.="
by the looks of it.. the liberals are probably just gonna prop someone up there as a temp premier until they figure out who their next leader is.. question is.. who?
He was in the developers pockets as Mayor so why should anyone have been surprised that he continued to be as Premier?
Kevin Falcon?!
Yikes....
love him or hate him the guy is good at what he does
Gordon Campbell was a horrible premier. Even though he resigned, it's not going to change anything. Everyone that supported him and contributed to the shit this province has seen is still in power.
As students, we should be the most relieved. He's been in power since I was in elementary school and the entire education system in BC has gone to shit since then. Students in High school don't have to write provincials, entrance requirements are way lower, and tuition is always getting higher. The Liberal's have cut funding to so many important programs. Schools are shutting down everywhere.
Simon: His resignation was very expected. Liberals are going to vote for a new leader soon. To vote out Gordon before his term ended would show that even his own party has lost confidence in him. If they didn't vote him out, the liberals wouldn't see the light of day for years. His only choice was to resign now or end his reign at an even lower note at the end of his term.
Also, the reason public opinion regarding the HST is not what you think it is. People hate it because it is a huge lie and the implementation of it was a shit-show. The income tax cut was obviously a last ditch plan to raise his approval ratings, but everyone saw through that. What the hell are low income people going to do with that small of a cut? Making that much money a year means that you already get most of your money back anyways.
I honestly hope that the NDP get rid of James so I won't feel that bad when I vote next election.
To sum it up, fuck Campbell. The prick will make more money sitting on his ass for the rest of his life than we ever will.
