Toyota Recall

edited February 2010 in General
Just thought I'd spread the word. Toyotas recalled millions of vehicles due to a stuck acceleration problem.

They've stopped manufacturing and selling these models in all of North America:
2009-2010 RAV4 crossover, the 2009-2010 Corolla, the 2009-2010 Matrix, the 2005-2010 Avalon, the 2007-2010 Camry, the 2010 Highlander, the 2007-2010 Tundra, and the 2008-2010 Sequoia

In my opinion, Toyota has made some pretty reliable cars in it's time but there quality has been deteriorating recently. What makes it worse is they tried to cover it up by blaming it on floor mats. Make sure you guys go and get your cars checked out at the appropriate dealership/ service center.

Heres a 911 call from a family that were stuck in their car when it happened:

the japanese produced Toyota's are fine and not on the recall list. only the north american made ones are on the list.

they have definetly fucked up royally on this one. they shoulda accepted the problem, and fixed it. but then again alot of manufacturers have been doing this over the years. they wait till it gets blown out of proportion before trying to fix it (honda with their civic transmission failures, toyota with the stuck peddles, and ford with their exploding tires and engines).

other manufacturers (e.x. Audi) have had the unintended acceleration issues as well and have since fixed problems and regained their markets.

hate to say it but the current car manufacturer thats leading the econo-box market is hyundai. hopefully they will not make the same mistakes that previous auto manufacturers have made.

a few things about that youtube video. did anyone else find it weird that he didnt put the car into neutral and slam on the brakes? sure the engine could have over-rev'd and exploded but atleast the car would have stopped before flying off a cliff. the guy was a highway patrol officer and would have been familiar/trained in high speed driving/pursuit. its a sad way to go but until someone dies from an issue people usually wont bat an eye at it.

People were just stupid. They hit the gas pedal instead of the break cause they shifted both pedals 5cm over.

Had mechanics from Toyota come over at work to inspect the Toyota portion of our fleet.

    2010 Corolla, Matrix, Camry (non-Hybrid)

Didn't find any problems with the " sticky pedals ", and keep in mind our fleet is 1500 cars, with at least 40% of the cars being the Corolla,Matrix,Camry

The stockholders are gonna cry no matter what.

"The models affected accounted for more than a million sales in 2009, 57 percent of Toyota’s American total for the year"

that's gonna cause some short-term panic. Nevertheless, its move to halt production and sales of all models is the decision but it may have come a bit late...

Does this apply to ALL Corolla models? I drive a Corolla S 2009.

And I read that this only applied to those bought in the US?

best thing would be for you to call up toyota and ask them about it. better safe than sorry.
