I dunno if that's early or late.

My enrollment date is on March 13 at 9:30AM. I am not too stressed about registering for the summer because the course selection for History and Humanities SUCKS this summer. I will be taking HIST 436: British Columbia only because I need to do the Group 2 requirement.

Right, in case anyone is interested to see if the amount of credit and CGPA I have have anything to do with enrollment date and time, I currently have 82 credits and a CGPA of 3.160. By the way, anyone know when registration starts?

March 9th, slim possibility of doing a DE Calc course, nothing otherwise.

I guess registration starts on the 9th then.

What's the procedure around not taking any courses? Do they just keep sending me an appointment time in the fall?

There is no procedure. From what I gathered from Student Service (reliability is a whole other matter), you can actually take two terms off before you have to reapply.

This means that you can enjoy your long and relaxing summer vacation and they will still be sending you your fall registration date in late June.

March 9 is the first day for registration. The Summer timetable is out already.

I know the registration date is based mainly on the number of credits you have, but do any of you know that does SFU include this semester's credits as well? Apparently, I did 2 co-ops terms (in the summer and in the fall). It was not a surprise to me that I got a crappy registration day in November 2008. However, for registrating next semester, my registration date got much much better. This sounds weird to me.

If I declare my minor now, will they change it to an earlier date?

Wow, are the classes all out on go.sfu?! There are NO ACS courses! And Student's right, no good HUM courses. I think I'm only going to be taking HUM 130DE...

Actually, most of the courses are up on GoSFU since mid December last year. Our Humanities Department are quite good at uploading their courses onto GoSFU early. By the way, I believe that Christine Prisland, our Hum academic advisor, actually got the tentative course offering for Fall 09.

You have taken full course load since you entered in Fall 08, you should take a break.

^I took 4 courses first semester, 5 this semester and it's already taking it's tool on me, I completely failed a quiz I had today ='(

But my Fall 09 registration date is going to be the worst due to high schoolers coming in so I think I should take 3 courses in the summer and see how much I can take in the Fall...

Sorry to hear that, I hope that quiz doesn't worth a lot. By the way, this full course load is REALLY taking a major toll on you.
But my Fall 09 registration date is going to be the worst due to high schoolers coming in so I think I should take 3 courses in the summer and see how much I can take in the Fall...
Statisically speaking, you should have a easier time registering for the Fall semester as course offering tend to be better than either Spring or Summer. Besides, since you probably will still be dealing with lower level stuff in Fall 09, a lot people tend to drop their courses in their first week or so. That would help your odd as well.

Finally, don't force yourself to take courses you don't want to take for the sake of getting more credits. I made this mistake when I took ARCH 100DE and CNS 210DE in Summer 07 and my GPA still hasn't recovered yet.

I think i'm going to take JAPN 100 or 101 (if I get in... they fill up so fast!) HUM 130DE and WL 102 (Anyone know if this course is good?)
    Plus I need a job ='(

Oh, for the WQB thing does anyone know if you HAVE to complete all your W and Q by the time you hit 60 credits? Or is it just suggested?

Regarding the thread title "What's your Enrollment Date?" Shouldn't it be "WHEN is your Enrollment Date?"

This is your call. Just make sure that you are confident that your GPA won't take a major beating from the Japanese or World Literature course.

No, you do not have to complete all your W and Q by the time you hit 60 credits. In fact, I don't think it is even possible for you to complete all your W and Q in under 60 credits due to our craptastic course selection.

HOWEVER, you DO HAVE to take at least one W and one Q before you hit 60 credits. Since you have taken HUM 101 and HUM 102 last semester, you don't have to worry about the W part. As for Q, like I say to everyone, take Chemistry 192 in Fall 09.

I'm March 16th at 9:30am...I'm struggling to get courses that I actually want/need. Right now I only have 45 credits, so I don't quite have enough for 300 level courses, but I'm pretty much done my lower level requirements for CMNS. 5 elective courses in the summer I suppose!

Hey Nicole, 45 credits are enough for 300 level courses.

    45creditshm6.jpg

In fact, I am pretty sure that 45 credits is the standard amount of credit, plus declaring your major/ minor (in selected programs), you need to start taking Upper Level stuff in SFU.

However, GETTING INTO said courses is a whole other matter as you will be competiting with third and fourth year Communication people, who most likely will have much earlier registration dates than you.

march 13th @ 7:30.. bloody hell 7:30 is much too early for my brain to function properly..=.="

i'm still deciding whether i should take summer cause normally i spend my summer raking in my year's worth of tuition.. but with the budget cuts and everything.. professors have been telling us to take whatever courses we can get our hands on cause no one really knows how deep the bite actually is..

and the course selection for the summer isn't exactly all that appealing.. i think there's only like one course that i'm genuinely interested in? siGh... this would be so much easier if we get to see what the fall course selection is like..

    bleh* end rant//

i was looking at the catalogue and this summer in particular looks not that appealing, i think ill have the classes i need to graduate though

Well, at least you get to register EARLY.
but with the budget cuts and everything.. professors have been telling us to take whatever courses we can get our hands on cause no one really knows how deep the bite actually is..
Here is what I don't understand about SFU. If they are having all these cuts that lead to a reduction in course selections, professors, and bigger lecture and tutorials, why hasn't they reduced their program requirement? It is unreasonable for them to expect us to complete our program if they are not offering the course needed to fulfill the program.

try to take fewer courses per semester, that should matter a lot more than the number of consecutive semesters you've taken.

not sure about other programs but I'm actually required to take at least one each from upper division.

You are in Criminology right? Isn't Crim 320: Quantitative Research methods in Criminology a required courses?

In some other programs, one of the W you take has to be a upper level course, normally within your program. However, the two Q credits can be either lower or upper level.

    http://www.sfu.ca/ugcr/For_Students/WQB_Requirements/

Ok Primexx, I am pretty sure you are very familiarize with the WQB thing, however I am kind of annoyed that some of the new people coming into SFU are oblivious to the WQB requirement. I was in the MBC today doing some paperwork and I saw a group of high school kids touring the campus. I almost want to shout out, "Hey guys, make sure you get your tour guide to tell you about the WQB requirement!"
