white is worn traditionally at funerals if I know my Chineseisms, hence bad for New Year and I had no idea about washing my hair. I know we're suppose to wash up before the new years eve dinner but thats it. I've almost always showered on New Years I'd imagine
^Yeah, I have no idea about that whole washing hair thing. I don't know if someone have already explained this, but in Cantonese and Mandarin (?), hair and fortune sounds very similiar, like of like see and sea in English.
Also, if anyone is interested to know, Eight is considered an auspicious number because Eight and fortune also sounds quite similiar. This is one of the reason why the Beijing Olympic started on August 8, 2008.
Like DaNoobie said, white is traditionally worn during Chinese funerals, hence it is not the ideal colour to wear during Chinese New Year. Ideally, you should wear Red because red is considered a lucky colour, and, if you are lady and want to arouse guys around you, recent research has indicated that red enhances male attraction to women.
I think this is a year-round thing, but if you're a guy, you're not supposed to wear green hats cuz it means your gf/wife is cheating on you. lol something to keep in mind if you're thinking of buying a Canucks hat.
lol, and iono if you guys are familiar with this one, but you're not supposed to clean your house or sweep after New Years Eve (Sunday Night), in case you sweep all your 'fortune' out for the New Year ahah.
Nicely put hahaha. Yeah I generally don't follow them, except maybe for wearing red for big CNY family dinners. I definitely wouldn't be able to go without washing my hair *shiver
LOL that's hilarious! I have to say, I do like red =]
