Yeah, that's what I meant by my comment, guess I worded it incorrectly. It's odd, because some of the Telus phones have SIM slots in them, probably cause the cell companies are too lazy to completely redesign the board and housing. I've heard that the Nokia 6265i can be flashed with new software to make the SIM slot functional.
It probably involves both unlocking (if they're locked) and an OEM software for the phone.

Quite honestly tho I think we're VERY deprived here in North America... especially Canada.

Personally I have a phone that can take 2 numbers, however since they dont put 2 numbers onto a simcard there's not really a way I can do so "legally" or without damaging my sim card by trimming it and putting it into some ghost sim thing... totally sucks... I was quite honestly thinking of gettin a second line since Im always using more minutes than my package provides

I've always noticed that we are very behind with our cell phones here in BC...ESPECIALLY Telus. CDMAs are so bulky and useless I don't see why anyone bothers to sign a contract with Telus to begin with.

Well, all of the carriers in Canada get the stuff at the same time, roughly, so no province is particularly behind.

Telus and Bell will probably be switching their services to WCDMA sometime in the near future. Releasing EVDO was a good step in that direction, but they need to keep that up, otherwise 3G is going to kick their asses, once Rogers implements it in the new year.

Bell uses Telus' towers in BC, so if any changes occur, both are going to change simultaneously. But it is true, Telus is the worst for charging excess fees, and their cancellation policy sucks balls. Honestly, when people come in asking to sign a contract with Telus, I tell them that it'll suck for them, and that GSM is the way to go. Unfortunately, this rarely deters customers, even after I tell them Telus sucks. That's salesmanship at its best, right there.

Do you think its the marketing that has people so enthralled with Telus or just plain ignorance?

    I am with Telus.

Its funny how you mentioned the Nokia 625i or whatever its called, because that was the phone I was looking at for my choice of a new phone. I was also thinking of giving my phone/plan to my brother and getting a new plan with Rogers/Fido. Whats this that Telus is changing soon? Is it the same or better than Rogers? I don't know much about the technology, and Telus is ridiculously expensive.

Well, price wise, all companies are pretty pricey. The fact of the matter is, if you use your phone even moderately, you're going to be spending at least $40-$50 a month. Plans don't differ considerably from company to company. Very few people actually use less than that, I find, unless you're really stingy with your minutes.

All of the providers are changing to a more advanced network which is more optimized for data transfer, so we're going to be seeing a lot more video-calling phones, and internet centered phones. I just don't like Telus (or Bell for that matter), because of the lack of variety of phones. GSM (which is the network Rogers and Fido use) is more of a world standard, and uses SIM cards, so you can switch your SIM to any unlocked phone without needing to contact the provider to let them know, plus this gives you the option to purchase a phone from overseas, where the selection is much larger.

Whereas with Telus, you have to call customer service, give them your serial number from your phone, program the phone with your number, which isn't easy for the technologically-impaired, and you pay a $25 fee. There are a ton of other fees Telus enjoys charging people, but I won't mention those.

Either way, I'm with Rogers anyway, and I've always liked them. I always call up customer service to complain about anything, and I get something out of them =) My plan right now is pretty good, and I got it by complaining about my high bills. I'm quite content.

    @MB
Quite honestly, I dont think Bell+Telus will go to WCDMA, they prolly gonna skip that and go to a CDMA's HSDPA equivalent like wut Rogers/Fido did/doing/will do

OH NOZ! I R GOING TO GET TEH BRAIN CANCERS!

You know, even if you're not using a cell phone, those waves are still going through your head, say, if you're standing near somebody using a phone, which is pretty hard to escape. So, why not facilitate the process and kill yourself, rather than let some smug businessman on his blackberry kill you with his electromagnetic waves.

I can easily escape people using cellphones by going to another galaxy while the electromagnetic waves kill u.
Besides I am not always close to a cellphone user.
The world will someday grow tired of cellphones and that will be the day I return to earth.

By the way, chocolate still makes u fat.

Dag, that's a pretty good plan. Sounds like the corporately reimbursed plan Rogers used to have. I had to put up a fight for a decent plan, but eventually I got one that fit my needs, and wasn't costing me an arm and a leg...maybe only one.

    For $50 a month, I get:

    700 daytime minutes
    unlimited early evenings and weekends
    Rogers to Rogers
    100 Canadian Long distance

Downside is, I have to pay for caller ID and Voicemail. A $10 package, I believe.
