Need a Job? Hub Insurance is Hiring

edited June 2008 in General
Hey guys! As you may know I work at an insurance office in Langley for a company called Hub International TOS Ltd. (http://www.hubinternational.com). We are hiring right now, so I thought I'd let you guys know in case anyone is looking for a good office job. If you want to make money for at least a couple of semesters, you should think about applying. As an insurance broker, it will be your job to help clients when they come into the office to renew their auto insurance. This involves entering their info into the computer, printing the paperwork, getting it signed and collecting payment. Once you learn it's really easy. When their aren't any clients you get to hang around the office so it's a pretty chill job.

In order to be licenced as an insurance agent in BC, you have to write a test called "The Fundamentals of Insurance." For a university student this is a boring but easy test to study for. You can either buy the book and study it on your own time or you can take a 1 week immersion course. You can find more information about the Fundamentals test here: http://www.ibabc.org/educat/educat_educat_fundam.html

The great thing about Insurance is that the money making potential is unlimited. Not only do you get a salary for working in the office but you can make unlimited commission by doing insurance for friends and family. Hub Insurance has offices all over BC, including Burnaby, Richmond, Surrey and Vancouver so if you are interested in a position email me your resume at simon.rai@hubinternational.com and I will forward it to my HR manager. If you have any questions feel free to ask!

This seems like a good learning experience. What qualifications are needed to apply?
  • edited June 2008
Like I said, just the Fundamentals of Insurance exam (you need 70% to pass) and a willingness to learn.

You can try applying without having done the exam, but if you complete the it before applying I can pretty much guarantee you will get hired. You are also given 2-3 months of paid training in the office, so your right, it is a great learning opportunity and a great way to put your first step into a business/office environment.

Can you give us some more info.....
Can i apply and do the course after or do i need to do the test beforehand?
What kind of shifts do they offer and does the scheduling work well for a full-time student?
    Whats the starting wages?
Im interested i this i was already thinking of doing the course. Im pretty sure i can do it within a week if the jobs your company has to offer can fit into my schedule. After i do this course can i also apply at car dealerships and whatnot or does that need more certification?

They have a few per month. I know because I've taken it.

How's the test in terms of difficulty? How much studying is required?

At coast capital they actually pay for your test. 4 days of studying should be enough to pass it.

I took the life insurance one, so its harder than just general insurance. If you want to pass it comfortably, at least give it a week of studying.
