Downloading Music for Free

What do you guys think of the conservative government trying to enforce stricter, well actual laws against copyright infringement re: downloading music as one aspect of it?

I have bought less than 10 CD's in my entire life, because I thought they are rip offs, to pay 15-20$ for something that probably costs .3 cents overhead to make. I think I would gladly stop downloading music and buy CD's if they were like 5$ a pop.

    I'm willing to pay friggin 80 dollars to see a sweet band, so I shouldn't have to buy their damn CD so their record label can make money, lol

    Yeah.. I spend enough money on concerts and shows as it is.. I see no reason to buy music.

    I'll buy music off of stuff like iTunes, but I won't buy CD's.

    i normally dont even go as far as buying stuff on itunes, i will buy the occasional single or two on itunes that i cant find downloadable (a clean non corrupt copy)

    or stuff that you cant find easily like stand up comedy stuff

    the proposed laws are draconian and should be opposed by everyone.

    i'll b interested in how they can enforce any of this

    and like many other ppl, i wouldnt spend money on albums, but would hav no problem goin to concerts

    Being a typical chinese, I download everything I can. Not only does it save money, but it also saves time and space in the physical world. So convenient!

    I usually DL most of my music with torrents. However, I always buy certain artists' (ex: Avril Lavigne) CD because I like their work so much.

    That reminds me, I need to get the new Marilyn Manson CD.

    I'll be surprised if this actually get through the parliament and senate. Also, don't they have more important things to deal with? Ex: Exterminating the Taliban plague in Afghanistan, saving our butt from the possible recession, dealing with the rising price of food and gas

    lol Avril is cool in my books, but even for me it's considered a "guilty pleasure"... kinda weird that a guy would name her as one of his favourite artists and mean it seriously too.

    I think Avril had some good hits, she was a good change from the teeny bopp spice girls, britney spears, etc...but she's a horrible singer live so it's hard to respect her anymore...her songs are very "produced" and altered...then theirs singers like chris brown who actually have some talent...watching that guy live is pretty crazy how he does those dance moves

    anyways, downloading music rocks...it's better for everyone...lots of companies are trying to figure out how to monetize music online (ie. itunes, beatport, limewire etc.)....so far it's been going in two directions: downloading music directly from the artist/label's website (ie. radiohead) or from music "providers" (ie. the hmv of today)...itunes is one music provider but there is no major leader yet...until then im gonna keep using file sharing websites like zshare and ares to download as much shit as i can...over the years i've discovered and enjoyed music that i would never have known about without the internet so it has a lot of advantages

    Hmm...never met an Asian guy who likes Avril and Manson at the same time...or anyone for that matter. Interesting taste.

    Regardless of the merits of new proposed copyright laws... it would cost more to enforce than any possible monetary gains for the concerned corporations. Plus, it's a wast eof tax revenue.

    What are you talking about? When you download you are taking money away from very good bands who are now becoming poor like Metallica. How do you expect them to live if you just download their work?

    Theres been a bunch of bands that i've downloaded and have gone to their concerts. I am guessing they make more money from concerts than cds. So if I didn't download their stuff, I would never have gone to the concert... lol

    Do you think Harper and his government care? They'll do anything to make the Americans happy. Including hanging their own constituents.

    The sad part is, in spite of his sarcasm, this is the defense they actually use, when in fact most artists are paid per album, not per unit, esides the richest ones who are able to self produce and distribute their own music.

    I love buying CD's. I buy them because I want to look at the album art, and sometimes, it feels good to pop in a CD in the CD player and have a listen of one artist through the whole album.

    Im not sure if this info is 100% reliable (little brother lol), but i heard that the rcmp or the transit police or something have been checking ppls ipods if the music has been downloaded illegally.. apparently it was on the news
    can any1 confirm this to be true?

    that can't be true, they don't have the authority to do that....yet...

    and if it happened it's very unlikely that this is the first time i've ever heard of it (I regular several places which would undoubtfully have covered that in great detail), so it probably didn't happen.
