An 'N' notation
Ok so here's the dealio: I have to write a make-up exam on Monday (Apr 21) because I missed an exam due to legitimate family reasons.
I asked my prof whether I should give him the documents supporting why i missed the exam on the make-up day, or if I give it to him sooner. He told me to give it to him on the 21st.
Right now I have this N notation for the course, which makes sense since i technically did miss the final exam. then reading up about the N notation, i saw this:

So was I supposed to give the documents in earlier??? I think I might be a little paranoid right now, but the professor will ultimately have the right to change my grade once I have done my final exam...right??Students who miss exams because of illness or for compassionate reasons must obtain a physician’s certificate or other supporting documents to obtain consideration in the course. Such documents must be filed with the department chair or registrar within four days of the date on which the examination was to have been written.
A student may not rewrite (or write, in the case of receiving an N grade) a paper unless he/she re-enrols for the course and participates in the course as required by the instructor.

You don't really have much of a choice at this point. Either accept that you'll have to re-take the course cause you missed the deadline or show up on Monday, do the exam and hope the instructor updates your grade or w/e.
Also, 'N' now actually stands for 'the N word.' It's a controvertial new marking scheme SFU is trying out this year. It's part of the rebranding. "Thinking of the world" indeed!
i didnt write it until the semester following it, had N on the gosfu thing the whole time.
i didnt give anything to my prof, i did it distance ed, i just gave a letter to some woman at front desk, lol
back to the OT: i just sent my prof an email and hopefully he'll send a reply soon since this is really bothering me.
i don't think it'll be a problem b/c i've communicated with my prof for the past week and he was the one that told me to give the documents to him later.. plus the deadline for grades going up on gosfu is the 25th (which i assume applies to grade changes) so there's enough time for him to change it...
but i'm just scared knowing how many students have had problems with the sfu registrar...
i'd be royally pissed if i had to retake this course b/c of this since 1) this course is an elective and 2) i was at a 86-90% average prior to the final....
i actually just got a reply from my prof and he reassured me that everything will be a-ok. phew!
and good luck on your final!!
it kind of sucks that i still have this one final looming over me before my two weeks of freedom FINALLY arrives...but what can i do :P
