If you're talking as of right now I would say Price. It's still early, but he could very well pull a Roy in the playoffs.
Hasek had a streaky season, similar to Luongo. Brodeur is the man in terms of revolutionizing the position, but I wouldn't say he's the best in the league right now.

Brodeur and only Brodeur. You obviously dont follow much hockey if you put Hasek in front of Luongo, let alone at this stage in their respective careers.

Price hasn't proved anything yet. re: Cam Ward

I'm largely indifferent towards Nonis, but fire AV. The guy can't coach skilled players.

ugh brodeur screwed up tonight, haha.
Remember the finals against Anaheim... haha
even the best goalies have blunders

hahahaha wuttt?? ur kidding me. U say i dont follow hockey much? In wut way is Luongo better than Hasek. Hasek is one of hockeys legends, up there with Roy and Brodeur. Hes won multiple vezina and Hart trophies and is still playing hockey with arguably the most-consistent hockey franchise at 40-sumthing years of age. Luongos been in the nhl for wut, 8-9 years now? He hasnt done nething significant enough for neone to say hes better than Hasek. If u wanna compare there respective careers i suggest u do a lil research lol.

As for Price, hes questionable rite now as was Huet wen he started off for montreal. I think he has potential to give montreal a good playoff run. And Cam Ward was just a one-hit wonder.lol

Which is why I put italics on right now! Unproven or not, Price could very well be the Ward of this season...and look where that got the Hurricanes.
Similar to McLean in a sense. McLean had an absolute stellar season in 94, but aside from that run, painfully average.

Hey Nicole, Ward hasn't done well this season ;)

Regarding Hasek, I dont hate him for his unorthodox style, in fact I'd say it makes it more interesting. But your comparison is fairly flawed. You're looking at his past glories to argue hes a better goaltender now, which is far from the truth. He is well past his prime and has been for a few years now. He has been very very injury prone as well. If you want to bring up numbers, he plays for Detroit. Hell, even Osgood had better numbers.

What has Luongo done? Luongo has played exclusively for bad teams. Canucks ugh, included. Just look at the type of offense we're supplying Luongo with, compare that to the teams (and past teams) Hasek has played for.

Regarding the comment that AV can't coach skilled players, its basically his style of coaching in my opinion, that snuffs skilled players of their creativity and such. On top of that, such of his decisions have been really really wtf. (playing Bieksa over Salo on the left point of the power play for example)
The best evidence for that comment I have is probably the type of years our players had I guess. Where our skilled players suffered prolonged scoring droughts and our tough nosed grinders had break out years. Although, I guess thats probably insufficient...

I meant that Price could be the Ward of this season in the sense of pulling stellar performances on a nightly basis in his first year, possibly leading them to the Finals. 'This season' referring to Price. Get it?

And I don't know who you're directing the Hasek argument to, but I agree.

i wouldn't be surprised if nicole and others were avid canucks.com forum members lol.

directing it to the guy that said Hasek is > Luongo right now and he went ape on me for saying he doesnt watch much hockey :D

but yah I actually like Montreals chances this year, not so much that Price is hmm, how shall I say this... going to stand on his head and do his best Brodeur/Roy imitation, but Montreal just has a very balanced team

I actually like the top two of each conference, one of the few times in past memory I can ever recall saying this

OK, correct me if i'm wrong, but we're comparing them based on how they are playing now, right? ur basing ur whole argument around the teams playin around the goalies. Basically, my interpretation of wut u said is, Hasek is not as good cuz hes playing on a good team (Detroit) and Luongo is better cuz hes played on a string of mediocre teams. U havnt said nething that wud actually put Luongo in front of hasek wen considering just skill levels. I aint sayin Luongo is bad, im just sayin Hasek has played slightly better than him for the majority of the season...and if u account for factors like his age and being prone to injuries, u can see it is a amazing achievement. Just that fact that detroit plays him over osgood is an indication of his greatness, haha.

But honestly how are u using the Canucks offense as an argument here, wut wud be more relevant here would be mentioning the defense wudnt it.

lol and i aint goin apeshit on u, im just a huge fan of Hasek and hockey in general, which shud be obvious and its just an opinion so dont take offence to anything i say lol

uh, Hasek was played for 40 games or so this season, basically once every other game, to prevent him from getting hurt. Do you see any other proven #1 in the league play every other night? I think off the top of my head, Luongo played in 72 or 73, and missed 1 of them, the one after all star game, for personal reasons.
If you want the best way to judge on how valuable each is to their team, just think where Detroit would be without Hasek... now compare that to where the Canucks would be without Luongo.
Regarding offense, Canucks shit offense causes Luongo to not get nearly as many wins. And hell the shit offense is why the Canucks sucked the couple years. Detroits offense on the other hand is a monster puck possession team that just barely ever gives up the puck. They out shoot their opponents night in and night out (some ridiculous amount of games, was mentioned once but I dont remember) - this helps keeps the play going on the other end
Regarding D, sure its relevant, lets count man games loss on D shall we?
How many Norris trophies have the Detroit D won combined in their careers? How many for the Canucks D combined? *COUGH* ZERO *COUGH*

In terms of skill, Luongo is widely considered as the best/2nd best (can you guess the other one?) technical/butterfly goalie in the world. Hard to put a style on Hasek, best way to describe him is he uses his agility well, wouldn't you agree? And at this point in his career, do you really want to be relying on his agility?

Its one thing to like your team/favourite player. Mine is Naslund, but you won't catch me saying hes a better player than Zetterberg right now because hes scored more goals and points in his career and has broken the century plateau in a season whereas Zetterberg hasn't, he has more all star entries yadayadayada
