"Remionder: Wednesday test of SFU Alerts"

Is it just me, or are there others who are finding it funny that they decided to test their new Alert system at the least disruptive time, at 12:25pm tomorrow, which happens to be during exams. You know that some people leave their cell phones on so at 12:25 tomorrow, whoever is in an exam is going to hear a bunch of phones ringing at the same time.

    The title was ok on the first one, yet they send another one with bad spellings to remiond us of Wednesday's test. Still, I didn't give them my cellphone number because I rarely, if ever carry my cellphone around.

    To receive the text message they send, would you have to be in the SFU area?
    I believe so, since I didn't get one (even though I submitted my number)..can anyone confirm though?

    nope i got 2 of em and i was in richmond..got the email too
    chek to see if u submitted ur number on goSFU in the proper format

    I got the SFU alert thing on my cell while being in west van. It came in 2 parts.

    I also got a prank message from someone who claim to be someone called pookitou19982. Scary stuff.

    Mine came in 2 parts, but at 5:00pm.
    I guess I'm skrewed if we ever have an emergency!

    I didn't get one either and my cell number is correctly entered in goSFU. At 12:25 pm I was on campus.

    I got mine at like 2pm, it was so much more disruptive than it would have been at 12:25 lol

    For those of you who didn't get text... did you guys click on the link to acknowledge the email?

    Maybe if you clicked on it before they got around to send the text.. you don't get the text? (ie. Email > Text > Phone calls?)

    i just realized i got the txts at 5:25 but they have the time stamp of 12:32PM it said to reply with 'YES'. i tried this from 5:25-7pm didnt work then it finally went through @ 9pm-ish
    lame... id dead by now :P

    I looked over time time I received my E-Mail and it was 15:27 (3:27) and 16:26 (4:26). Yep, I am dead as well.

    failed for me.

    i got it at 12:25 on my drive back to Richmond, BUT.

    1) it cut off where it tells you how to confirm, so i waited for the rest of the messsage
    2) second message comes in afterwards, it is broken and just says the word SEND
    3) i reply YES anyways, and it gets errors sending back to it. they must assume i've already died since i can't send a reply lol.

    If it were snowing here today and they university was going to have sent us texts saying to get off the hill because it is snowing, I would have looked out the window before noon and saw it was snowing and just left, as should all other students, but no many people had to complain that it was the universities fault they were stuck up here costing SFU to buy a $35,000 texting machine.

    i wonder if it'd be cheaper to hire say 100 students for $12/hour to spam those texts. considering you can just make a template then just input phone numbers and send.

    how do you know they spent 35k, was it in the news?

    I didn't get anything beyond the two first emails telling us they'd be testing the system today. The messenger I was not expecting a message although I had inputed it because I block everyone not on my contact list, but it's kind of stupid that not even the email or text went through.

    What a joke, check this out!
    Many thanks to all who took part, and apologies to all who encountered problems. There certainly were some glitches and difficulties, and we will address those before any further testing.

    The test message went to 29,374 people. The good news is that 8,600 were able successfully to receive the message AND acknowledge its receipt. Others received it but chose not to acknowledge it. The not-so-good news is that many others, for various reasons, got flawed messages or were not able to acknowledge receipt.
