Desperate need HELP!

edited April 2008 in General
I got accepted to SFU Sciences for summer 08 and paid my $100 deposit fee, but then parents planned to go overseas so I didn't register for any classes when my regis date came up, now all of a sudden I'm not going anymore (family issues) so I want to take an easy 100 course to pass the summer, and most of the classes are full or closed!

My question,
If I don't register for any classes will they forward my acceptence to Sept., or do they need proof? I don't even have proof now because Im not even going away anymore!

ur input greatly appreciated!

im pretty sure you can take something in the arts as long as you have the pre reqs..? or during the first week you can ask to be put in some classes if someone drops out then, maybe itd be best to speak to an advisor

im not sure about your question of not enrolling because its your first semester

is there any elective courses with good teachers available now? Basic 1xx courses, because I prob wouldn't have the pre req for any higher levels

    lecture = closed,

    whats the tutorial component?

Frm my experience...if you REALLY need to take a class. Still try to find something useful. Your education is costing you lotsa money. I dont think you should be spending so much money on something useless like Philosophy....IMO.

(there's a reason why arts classes are always open..)

if a lecture is closed dont bother enrolling in the tutorial cause both sections are required.

the tutorial is where you sit in a classroom with 20 other people and a TA and normally theres a lot of awkward silence

I also paid my deposit and then decided not to take the summer sem. I asked the office about this and she said my deposit will automatically transfer to Fall semester, as long as I dont take any class in summer

You probably got accepted a few semesters ago, so it's ok to take a semester off. This is my acceptance semester so i can't just bail out.....

This is a pretty specific question...I would contact the advising office to find out for sure. Here's a link: http://students.sfu.ca/advising/academic/index.html

If you paid the 100 bucks, you're in. Doesn't matter if you don't take courses. Don't take courses if you don't want to.

There's a lot of incorrect information on this thread.

My advice would of been to call SFU and ask about deferrals.

Admissions are only good for the semester you applied to. If you were accepted to the summer semester and did not take a course/finish a course then your admission offer does NOT automatically transfer to the next semester..

Current students are allowed to take off 3 consecutive semesters without having to reactivate their account.

    You can call 778 782 3224 - phone tree to ask/verify.

I did call, and advising said that if I dont take a course this semester, I have to re-apply for Sept. and for deferal I need a serious reason, which I dont anymore, at least if I was going away, i would have my plane tickets as proof, since I'm not going anymore they will not process my deferal. So im taking a course.
