I will definitely check out Cobbs since I have a few more Psych classes to go before I'm done! What course are you taking with her?

Yue Wang for Linguistics is awesome. She is extremely organized, loves the subject, likes a good laugh, and is also very understanding if you have to miss a project or if you need extra help. Actually treats students like people instead of machines!

I'm taking interpersonal relations right with her right now...It's mind boggling realizing so much about relationships and how much we choose to ignore when in one. I've always stayed away from linguistics though since my friends said it was too hard

Interpersonal Relations is Psyc 362? I need to take upper level courses for my Psych minor... I will definitely check out that course and prof! Thanks!

Linguistics is actually a lot of fun! It's really not that difficult. Not like a science course or anything like that.

i think Professor Julie Crawford for english is great. she was an associate professor from Columbia University in NY too!
had her last semester, very funny and interesting person, and always had exciting lectures that involved interacting with students...instead of just lecturing..

    Best:
Curt T. Griffiths (Crim), Ted Palys (Crim). All I can say is two excellent professors.

I've taken classes from other departments/faculties, but no one I had could really be called exceptional. And believe me, I'm good at assessing whether or not a prof is qualified (or competent) enough.

As for the wost, way too many are on my shit list  so you'll have to send me a message if you want to find out the rest

Other than Anne, has anyone had a decent business prof who is not:
    a) full of himself
    b) lazy
    c) likes to talk on and on before answering a simple yes/no question
    ?

One thing I don't get about business profs... if they know so much about business why did they choose to teach and not actually be "business men"

Physics - you want Dr. Trottier, Dr. O'Neil or Dr. Vetterli.

Chemistry - Overall pretty good but personally Dr. Leach and Dr. Walsby do a great job on quantum mechanics.

for econ, i think dave cox is a great teacher

For Biology, Kathleen Fizpatrick is the best. She's super nice and gives easy exams, that's very hard to find. I got B+ in her genetics class eventhough I totally slacked off.

Fitzpatrick is awesome! It's like taking a class and the prof is one of your buddies...but I musta slacked off even more than you because I didnt do so great lol

Dr Jason Bell is the best prof in Math. Dr Andrei Bulatov is the best prof in Computer Science. I have learned a lot from them.

For calculus Bruce Kadonoff... in fact he is probably the best prof I've had at SFU and I don't even like calculus to begin with.

Penny Deck for Kinesiology. She was actually applauded in lecture on the last day (and this was in a first year class!)

^ When I took Econ 301 a while back, a student PhD teacher, Bo Chen taught it. That was a tough course. But during the last lecture, the students applauded and thanked him. He returned the favor by ensuring that everyone passed given that you put a reasonable amount of effort into the course.

I dont agree with either of these. They're perhaps 1-2 on my most hated list in terms of professors go. I felt Day did a better job in terms of intro psych and Bartolomew (sp) however boring she was with her presentation on violence in relationships (guest lecture during interpersonal relationships) she is still the superior lecturer in terms of providing content and supporting evidence/explaining the evidence

On a different note, Mark Leire (Leare?) (sp.) is a great history prof. I also very much enjoyed my abnormal psych prof... Barry Ledwidge I think his name is.

Colligan - Intro. to fiction. The only class I never felt bored in in first semester.

I think Dr Bob Muir is pretty good--Archaeology

History: Prof. Sedra and Prof. Garfinkel (Tie)
    Archaeology: Prof. D'Andrea
    Humanities: None at the moment

Sociology (specifically SA150) - Anne Travers
Poli Sci (POL100W) - Andy Heard

Both are awesome, but I LOVED Heard!

Lucky One (ENSC 250) is the man! it's entertaining just to hear him talk. he's a little bit of a slacker, but he knows a lot and is very helpful.

    also Jason Bell, mentioned above

    that's it, so far :)

    Update!

History: Prof. Paul Sedra and Prof. Paul Garfinkel (Tie)
    Archaeology: Prof. Catherline D'Andrea
    Humanities: Prof. Paul Dutton

Funny, three of my favorite Profs are called Paul. Do all Paul make great Professors?

Did you take Hist-106 or Hist-224 with him? He is terrific in either one. He is teaching Hist-106 next semester.

    He is the man.

Also, in terms of helpful math profs:

    Jason Bell
    Veselin Jungic

probably mentioned already but I'm too lazy to go back and check.

If you're interested in taking upper division Psyc courses, and have an interest in forensics or crim. check out courses by Dr. Deborah Connolly or Dr. Don Read. They're awesome profs! Also, for those taking Health Psyc, Dr. Cox is AWESOME! As for Psyc 362, Dr. Bartholomew is an excellent prof., I don't know a lot about Dr. Cobb's teaching style/exams, but I've heard that it is a bit more difficult than Dr. Bartholomew's.
