KK Choi is probably one of the most lenient math profs in SFU.
I never liked calculus nor too calculus in high school and still ended up with a pretty good grade in 157.
His lectures are his quizzes/final. He even told us what would be on the final~

but be warned that he has an accent and his English is somewhat limited

Gibson for Business is pretty full of himself...
He's nice and all.. but not recommended

Cartwright is one of the better profs~
he teaches 131 and there are a lot of good comments on RMP.

    Uzelman (CMNS 221)
    Colligan (ENGL 101)
    Choi (MATH 157)

I wasn't such a big fan of Cartwright... sure he was kind of funny and a nice guy, but he didn't really teach me anything... all I did was scramble to write down all his notes, and there were a lot of them. I remember the essay question for the final was to summarize the movie we watched in class (Rebel Without a Cause)... of course we all did well on that question, but I couldn't believe we were being tested for that.

James dean has a knife fight and someone drives their car over a cliff.

    "OMG A+"

Okay - I still stand by Colligan, but for English I'll also add Dr. Everton to the list. I have him right now and he is absolutely insane, but put me back in love with Literature and made me decide to continue persuing an English degree instead of switching to Communications. Brilliant and crazy I think sums it up well.

For History Garfinkle is hilarious and a good lecturer for History. Manages to throw in pop culture references in a corny yet entertaining way.

I still haven't found anyone in Communications that I would say is all that motivating, unfortunately... which likely has something to do with the fact that I switched back to English.

ooo, we watched a movie this sem on the Enron's.
I'm guessing it'll be tested! haha, thanks for the heads up!

Hey, I am in that CRIM class (101), I hope he tests us on it cause that would be an easy question.

lol... well good for you guys.

I personally didn't think it was a very fair question since it barely had anything to do with the concepts we covered in the course. But of course everyone likes a mark booster... who cares about learning anyway? =P

It's totally fair, it's what was being discussed in like 1/10th of the lectures.

haha, the movie was the last lecture that i went to.
I hope he tells us in advanced which slides it would be tested on the final~

Time to work on 101 paper and presentation ><

I've only done 100 level English courses so far, and they're the most ridiculous, easy classes I've taken. ENG 105 with Budra last semester was pretty great (I'd recommend taking some of his classes...huge ego, but he makes lectures worth going to). And ENG 199 Distance Ed is absolutely pointless, but great to bring your GPA up.

In the CMNS department I haven't had a professor who has absolutely WOW'd me yet...I think Gutstein is motivating in the sense that you can tell he loves what he's doing, and genuinely cares about his students...but his lectures are somewhat boring. Great material though (235).

    Colligan for ENGL 101W

I saw her name mentioned a few times but I thought she deserved to get mentioned again. She seems quite passionate about the material and encourages class interaction.

Yeah, I just feel like I'd be way too tempted to slack off in Distance Ed. I tried to get a Budra class, but they filled up fast. I have Ogden, though, who is supposed to be good, and I'm making a big effort to get into another class with Everton, who I would honestly take Phonebook 101 from.

My Mother actually had dinner with Gutstein a few months ago, and he's exactly how he teaches - really crazy and all over the place and passionate. lol.

Barry Cartwright for crim! Easy peasy prof. His exams are taken straight from his PowerPoints.
Ann Travers for sociology. Inspirational, real, and just plain amazing. Really forced me to see the world in a different perspective...as corny as it sounds.
