can TAs cancel tutorials?

edited November 2014 in General
Like the topic says, can TAs cancel tutorials at their discretion? Do they get paid for cancelled tutorial sessions? I have this class where the TA has cancelled multiple tutorials because there was no presentations that day (and she doesnt give a crap about students), but I also recall from a different class where the TA went to tutorials even to simply answer student questions if there is nothing left to do, because they cant cancel the tutorial.

I'm not sure what the actual rule is. Usually if a TA can't make it, they will find a replacement for that class (one of the other TAs perhaps). From my experience though, i've had a few TAs that cancelled one tutorial for being sick or something like that, but not multiple throughout the semester. Talk to your professor about it.
  • Yeah, like shayan said, they usually find a replacement or have a make up session or office hours at another time. I never heard of multiple cancelled tutorials but I know some offer extra help if requested. I think they have a set number of tutorial classes that they must go to... even if there's no shows. If it's a really a problem, just go to your prof and let him or her know. I mean they ARE being paid to help.
