Declaring a major and requirements

How do you declare your major and in what year do you declare it? I know that you go to the academic advisor, but do you have to have all of your lower division requirements satisfied? For example, I'm in criminology and I haven't taken SA 150 (which is a requirement). Can I still declare my major or do I have to finish all the lower division requirements first?

Also, is there a certain amount of credits that you have to complete before declaring?

How about talking to an academic adviser about your questions? It does sound like some are more helpful than others, but that's what they're paid for. See also "Choosing a major":
