STAT 100 with Richard Lockhart

edited September 2014 in General
Hi guys,

I've got a few questions for anybody who is willing to help a fellow student...

1. Has anybody taken STATS 100 with Richard Lockhart?
2. Is STATS mostly a theoretical course? Or mathematical course?
3. What kind of stuff do you learn? Anything interesting?

I had my first STATS 100 lecture today, and it seemed quite boring.

  • 1. I have taken it, but not with him

    2. STATs 100 is definitely not very mathy. I wouldn't call it theoretical though either. It is kind of straight forward practical statistics, much of which is covered previously in high school math.

    3. The outline/table of contents in the textbook would be the best place to check for this. I remember covering median, mean, precision vs accuracy, sampling biases, very basic probability, some standard deviations....surely some other things I can't remember.

I wouldn't say it is an overly interesting course. It is easy though.
  • Didn't take it with him, but Stat 100 was very straight forward. Pay attention to some definitions and pay attention to the general way of solving certain problems. They will appear in midterms/final. I did a lot better in my final exam vs my midterms, so don't get discouraged if you start out a little slow.

BTW. I am selling the textbook. PM me via this forum. SFU library is 93$ + tax, I'm selling it for 70$
  • Flash, thanks for the offer, but I've already got the book.
