Corequisite for Chem 286

edited July 2014 in General
Hi. So I was planning on taking chem 282 this semester and chem 286 next semester. However when I looked at the description box for chem 286 it said that I needed to take chem 282/283 as a co requisite. I was wondering if it was absolutely necessary for me to do this. I know that chem 282 is going to be hard enough and so wanted to do chem 286 later. Please help. Thanks.

Co-requisites simply have to be taken at the same time or before. They just make some pre-requisites into co-requisites to give students more flexibility with scheduling. If you take 282 this semester it will meet the requirement for when you go to take 286 next semester.

*edit* I did a quick search after I wrote this up and some of the things I found were not really conclusive. I then stumbled upon this thread though which seems to support what I said. If there is any doubt though I suggest you contact an adviser.

  • Hey as someone who took these courses a while back, it's definitely useful to do them both at once because they are related. Remember, CHEM281 was 4 credits because it was lecture AND lab. The next course after that is split up into 2 courses: CHEM282 (2 credits, only lecture) and CHEM286 (2 credits, only lab).

286 is designed to be taken with 282 as the course material goes together. What you learn in 282 one week is related what you do in the 286 lab.

    Any questions, email the profs.
