Dropping (switching) classes

edited July 2014 in General
As far as I understood, if I drop a class to switch for another, I would not get charged the drop class fee off 50$. Is this correct? So let's say I am waiting for a class to open up, can I enroll in another class, and if the class opens, I can just switch?

There's a specific date that is set. Basically whatever credits you have enrolled in at that date, that is the amount of credits you must take. If you fail to take the credits that you were enrolled in at that date, then you will incur a $50 fee.

    Hope this helps.

If you are talking about dropping a class you registered in for Fall, the last day to receive a full refund is August 1st. If you drop a course between August 2nd and September 8th the penalty for dropping a course is $50 per course if your course load decreases. This means if you simply swap a class, as long as the two classes are the same number of credits you will not be charged.

For future reference this info can be found here http://www.sfu.ca/students/deadlines/fall2014.html under the "Fees: payments and refunds/penalties" section.

So to answer your question yes you can enroll in another class and switch at no charge. The last day to swap classes using the online system is September 8th. The last day to switch through and adviser looks like it is the 15th or 22nd....it isn't clear.
