I'm pretty neutral in terms of interest in computer science and programming. I'm in mbb major and taking 4 courses in the fall, excluding this course, and they're pretty heavy (for me at least). Would it be a bit much to put cmpt 102 on top?
I haven't taken the course so I do not know how hard it is. On the one hand it is a 100 level course so as far as computing courses go it likely isn't very hard. That said though even easy computing courses can be difficult, especially for people who aren't that interested in the material in the first place.
If you have no particular interest in learning MATLAB I wouldn't recommend taking the course.
Thanks so much for your reply! One last question: it seems you have some knowledge in Matlab? Is it hard to learn, compared to other computer languages that are common? Especially for someone who is indifferent about the subject?
I was a software systems student, but I do not actually have any experience with MATLAB.
From what I know about it thought it is a language that is mainly targeted towards solving Math, Science, and engineering problems rather than being a general software development language. Since you are an MBB student this might be something that appeals to you.
If you are just looking for an easy elective I would probably look elsewhere. If it fits really well into your schedule though, and you are somewhat computer savvy/interested in some applied computing I'm sure you could get through it. I wouldn't expect it to be easy though.
Maybe someone else with MATLAB experience can weigh in.
