is access code for psyc100 really necessary?

The textbook for psyc100 is almost $137, I guess it's the access code that makes it so expensive because I could get a used one without code for $70. Does anyone took the course with Prof Day and use the textbook before? Does the student access code matters for the course? The textbook is called "psychology: frontiers and applications" 4th edition published by Passer. Thanks a lot
