ECON 103 textbook- sell or wait?

edited December 2013 in General
For those who're in beedie, will it be useful to keep the textbook (e.g. for other courses to reuse/reference) or just sell it? Other courses as in the core ones.

Comments

  • If you need it for reference there's a ridiculous amount of econ books in all libraries. Plus plenty of online resources, i would sell it.
  • Sell it!
I took econ with iryna so the econ txtbook wasnt mandatory, i just borrowed and renewed it from the library when i needed it

Just sell it like 112233 said there's a ton of econ books in the library to borrow
  • Alright, thanks guys!
  • @lukeman I thought you can't borrow textbooks from the library that's on reserve by the courses because it's just there for in-use reference and use in-library only?
  • @BeAnBeAN Well for econ , as long as your not in Doug Allen's class its fine. Like I said I am taking econ with Iryna and she doesnt care which edition of the textbook you use.

The ones on reserve are usually the newest editions or ones the prof is using or recommending you to use during your semester, the older editions of the textbook (if there are any) are just crammed in the dusty bookshelves waiting for someone to borrow. As long as you confirm with the prof the older editions are A-okay, and you wont be needing them to do homework/assignments, don't bother buying em. Same as the other libraries, you 3 weeks and can renew.

Exact same thing with the geo textbook I have.

But IF you wanted to borrow the books on reserve, you can, but for 2 hours...= = so stupid
  • It's not stupid... they want to give everyone the chance to use it, not have someone hog it the entire semester.
  • @112233 yeah i understand that but srsly, 2 hours....
  • You know SFU isn't the only institution with a library, there are other libraries you can borrow from *nudge nudge hint hint*

@Whydoihavetoregister But don't you need their specific student card to borrow? I supposed you can get a guest library card but they have shorter borrowing lengths.
  • Kinda related but not really, anyone ever have Linklater for Buec 232? Is access code mandatory?

  • u can actually borrow the 2 hour reserves for 2:59 hours, so what i usually do is borrow it for 2 hours and 50 mins then i renew it and repeat, so u can renew the book online 3x before u have to renew it at the library desk or return it so given that u managed to borrow it for 2:59 hours you could borrow it for 8 hours and 57 minutes max before having to return to the library.
Additionally you can borrow it overnight if you borrow it out past 8pm i think. But be aware that ppl can put holds on reserves so if you wait til like 2:50 and try and renew it it'll say you can't cuz it's been put on hold, and if your not near the library you're screwed and you'll get fined a dollar per hour.
  • ^Good info for rez students.
