Taking courses not qualifying for credit

If you take a lower div course (ex: cmpt 120), even tho you can no longer gain credit (you have higher level cmpt courses), does that mean you could get an F in that course and not matter to your GPA at all? Will it even appear on your transcript?

Maybe it just counts an audit credit. ? I have no idea

I don't think you can even enroll in it and if you do you're just wasting money and it's used for nothing.
Either that or it maybe can be used to boost GPA but not count towards credits kinda like FAL and FAN?
