STAT 100/101 vs. 203

Hi guys, so long time since I asked a question on here but one thing I now really wanna know about is what are the major differences between STAT 100/101 vs. 203 and the advantages of each course? 

I'm having a major dilemma of taking 100 and 101 for two Q's but STAT 203 is the recommended course but if I take 203, I cannot take 100 or 101 for that other Q. 

What should I do?

Also, what the hell happened to the SFU GPA calculator!!!! I know they took it off after the site revamp but seriously... bring it back!

    If you really want the other Qs, and you have the choice of doing STAT 101 instead, I'd say just do the other 2 courses and learn the extra material from 203 on your own for future courses (as necessary). I believe stat 101 is more math than 203. I'd think they teach the same content in different ways (but I'm not sure!). I had to take either 101 or 270, and just took 101 and learned the material from 270 as I needed to for other courses.

    Okay I just found out that another future course in my major which is about the research methods has a Q so I really need only one Q from stat so that doesn't matter. The focal point here now is the difficulty. I'm not that great at math at all and require consistent help to obtain an A so ya.

    Really how much more material do you NEED to learn from 203 as opposed to 100/101? Will taking 203 really help me for future courses in my major which are Arts courses?

    Well, I have no clue how much more they cover in 203, but in the end you'll learn the same stuff in a different way. If you're not good at math then I would highly recommend doing stat 101 for the Q. It was super easy, and the math was extremely straightforward. It was more or less the same difficulty as grade 12 math. I'm guessing it's slightly more math than 203, but it was really simple and we were allowed cheat sheets too.

    @112233 What the fuckkkk.. I love you. How did you find it? The usual google search I do to get to it isn't there anymore and the link that I did find re-directed to missing.

    If I were you I would just take the recommended course. I did 101 a while back and it was pretty easy. Looking at the 203 outline they look almost the same, except we never used SPSS when I did 101. Of the SPSS topics we ignored some of them and did others by hand.

    Another thing to consider is who will be taking the courses. 101 will likely be software systems kids, and randoms taking it as an elective. 203 on the other hand will be social sciences kids most of whom have to take it.

    I wouldn't take both 100 and 101 unless you are using 100 simply as a gpa booster and have room for a lower division elective. You can always pick up a Q later if you are short.

    @ryan Thanks Ryan, you always got good advice. And thanks everyone. However, I cannot take 100 if I've taken 101 prior but I can do it vice versa. My Q's will be good regardless so I'm not worried about that anymore. The only thing I'm worried about is the difficulty and workload level and how much I'm missing from not taking 203. 

    Why is 203 "recommended" in the first place anyway? Is it easier for arts kids than 100/101? Is it more relevant to what you would learn in the future? Which would be odd because I don't see you needing stats further unless you go into research.

    I'm taking STAT 100 next term. Should be a GPA booster, since I already have Geog 251 experience (which covered SPSS too). And as it happens, Geog 251 is not a class that no longer gives you credit for STAT 100 mwhahaha.

    Aren't you a CRIM major? If you are then you don't need to take any Q classes because CRIM 220 and CRIM 320 count for Q credit. So take either 100 or 203. 100 if you want a GPA booster and 203 if you want something that will help you in future classes

    @lakerfanatic Can't. Too late. I guess it's fate like @Psycho said. I'll do it on my 10,000th post.

    @crimematic Yeah I just realized I don't need to worry about Q's at all. So I just don't know if 203 really is worth it that will help me with CRIM 220 and 320. Or will STAT 100 and 101 do the job? And anything else they will teach in 220 and 320 and I won't be too far behind.
