Anyone used to volunteer as a research assistant?

I got an email about volunteering as a Psy research assistant. But I don't have any long-term volunteer experience. Somehow I feel like even I apply to volunteer, they will still refuse me.

Why would they refuse free work?
The worst they can do if you apply is refuse you. Go for it.

They have some preferred qualities. For example, they prefer the completion of Psy 210. But currently I'm taking it. Anyways, thanks! :)
