ShrumList

edited October 2013 in General
Hey,

A few SFU students have just launched ShrumList.com.  Here you can find study groups, car pools, tutors, events/parties, textbooks, & much more.  We wanted to make it easier for SFU students to get together academically and socially.  The website has a very easy to use format.  Post ads for free and meet new people.  Check it out!

We're only been on-line for a couple days (after getting everything together over the last month), but we've already have a couple hundred people check us out.

Comments

  • How many of these do we need?
  • Well two, if one website inspired people to make another one... lol
  • Did you just copy paste what the other guy posted? Seems awfully familiar..
  • @beanbean apparently a lot since everyone wants to be the next "facebook" or "reddit"
  • Hey everyone,

We did notice Lucid's site, though it is a little different.  We've been working on this since the last week of August, so it's just by chance that they came out around the same time.

We're not trying to step on anyone's toes.  We've discussed putting this together for the last year, since a few of us don't own a facebook account.  This was just meant to be for SFU.
  • Yeah we understand. We're not dissing anyone here but I just find that there is overwhelmingly way too many sites let alone facebook pages that are similar. This includes: talkSFU, SkaleFree, ShrumList, Locazu, Facebook pages and the list goes on.

But don't get me wrong, although similar with a similar purpose, neither of these sites are the same and each has their unique strengths. But I guess it's good to have different sites because more sites= more competition= better product for the end-user to utilize and enjoy.
  • Kind of like how that Milun Tesovic guy from SFU made metrolyrics when there were already 50 lyric sites out there already but he saw the popularity of it and saw that there was a market for it and wanted to get a share. It's all good because it spawned some cool lyric sites like rapgenius.

One of the reasons we even thought of doing this was because we found facebook is not quite as popular with university students as it was 5-6 years ago.  What made it cool was that it was exclusive for university students and made meeting people easier.  Once parents and 12 year olds started getting their own accounts, it started to lose a lot of its appeal (just like hi5, bebo, etc. before it).

We all chipped in a decent amount of $ to get the site up, so we're hoping just to break even.  After a few months, if the service isn't needed, we'll just cut our loses.  Who knows what the future holds, maybe ShrumList & Skalefree will join forces one day.

@Beanbean yeah, I remember hearing about Tesovic, interesting stuff.
  • Or just keep doing what you're doing and strive for improvement and spam the fuck out of posters all over campus?

lol, Beanbean, want to be our Chief Marketing Executive?  We can offer you 10,000 Class A shares.
  • Are these Class A shares worth a couple cents? If so, yes. But I'll need a down payment of a really sexy secretary.
