Is macm 201 really that bad?

edited July 2013 in General
I've heard from almost everyone that it's the worst course they have ever done or will ever do at sfu. I'll be taking it next term, so I'm curious, is it really THAT BAD? Any advice for taking macm 201 after forgetting everything from macm 101? Is there specific chapters I should review beforehand?

  • no, cmpt 307 is the worst course. macm 201 is a breeze compared to it. even if you have forgotten everything from macm 101, it'll be easy to pick up again. iirc macm 201 is basically probability theory, generating functions, solving recurrences using generating functions, and graph theory.
  • Rofl, no it's easy. Just study for the quizzes every week.
  • MACM 201 is hard, but not impossible.
  • It's not hard people just study the hw enough to pass the quiz but they never really understand how it works. And repeat that over the coarse of the semester, and they just get dominated by the midterms and final. Take time to actually understand it before you say "i did the hw, i check the answer key, i should be good." Trust me, it pays off to get to know the material. Go to the workshops if you need to, thats what i did 3 times a week and it wasn't that bad for me.
  • Ok thanks for the responses, I feel much better now
