Taking several years off for a Korean military service.

Hi, I am planning to take several years (2 - 3 years) off due to my military service.

My judgement is that the earlier, the better.

I am a freshman, and just finished my first semester at SFU.

I was actually planning to go to Korea after second term, but i ended up going back before second term because of some family issue.

How do you guys think? Do you think it's a good decision?

Also, what is the procedure for taking years off? Do I have to do any paper work or anything?

+ what i mean by the earlier the better is that I cannot avoid the military service because it is a national duty that all the male korean citizens have to go whatsoever. Since I have to go anyways, I'd rather go early so that I can concentrate on later study after I come back with a fresh mind.

Best talk to an adviser, I think you can get time off but when you come back you have to fill out the "reactivation" form? http://students.sfu.ca/calendar/student-info/reactivation-readmission.html
