HIST 225

edited November 2012 in General
Has anyone taken history 225 before, 20th century europe?
I have never taken a university history course before, but
need a humanities credit, and it sounds interesting. But I
am definitely not looking for a difficult course.

Any thoughts?

  • I took HIST 225 in Spring 2012 with MacDougall. I didn't find it to difficult. The mid-term and final were take home but if you have never taken a history course before make sure you talk to your TA a lot. Each TA is different and expects different ideas to be incorporated in papers. Also, my friend took this course with Garfinkel and he said it was harder. I took HIST 106 with Garfinkel. It wasn't a difficult course per say but he does expect more from you. P.S. The material of this course is similar to History 12 in high school.
  • How much reading was required for HIST 225 tho? It it took a significant time to study? Is reading the textbook mandatory for a decent grade (B and higher)?
  • There's a course guide at:

    http://www.lib.sfu.ca/help/subject-guides/history/hist225

describing some of the research sources, to give an idea of the research expected.

  • you should also read the current course outline: http://www.sfu.ca/content/dam/sfu/history/Course Outlines/2013/Spring2013/Hist 225 course outline (Spring%202013).pdf

The lower level courses usually have a set of instructors that rotate from term to term, so different instructors will have different requirements
