MATH 240 vs MATH 232 CS

edited August 2012 in General
Hey guys, I'm trying to transfer into the Computer Science program, and I was confused about one thing.

On the suggested course list for the first few semesters it says you can do Math 232 or Math 240.

However, for the application process in which you need 2 Math and 1 CS course or 2 CS and 1 Math course, it only shows Math 240. Now generally I would just take Math 240 and not care about it, but I'm already really behind in terms of years and Math 232 is only offered next semester. Does anyone know if they will allow me to take 232 as opposed to 240 if I am going to apply for internal transfer to CS?

Also one other question about the faculty. I would like to do Software Systems at Surrey, and my question is, do I need to have been in the Systems One program to apply to the Software Systems stream? If not, anyone know the competitive GPA for Software Systems?

Sorry for asking so many questions, I'm just getting really nervous as to what to do.

Thanks in advance.

  • You should talk to an adviser.

For starters though look here http://www.surrey.sfu.ca/fas/compscie/overview/undergraduate_students/admission/current_sfu_students

232 and 240 are both accepted, and as such should both be accepted when applying. of the two 232 is easier.

For software systems I dont think you need to do systems one. At least back when tech one was the starting program i know students didnt need to do it. That said though the majority of the courses systems one students take are required software systems courses, so you will end up taking them regardless whether you are in the program or not.

Also as mentioned on that page you need a gpa of at least 2.5 to get in across the three courses you use when applying.
  • 232 is easier.
