Connecting to SFUNET SECURE with Atheros AR5B93 Wireless Adaptor

edited August 2012 in General
Hello,

I've had problems with SFUNET SECURE for months now so I gave up on trying to use it. Usually what happens is it simply takes too long to connect and never does. If it ever does connect it won't ever load a webpage.

So I settled with using SFUNET even though it is technically insecure. Nonetheless, I've had problems with that recently too. It'll connect to the network but then when I open a browser to try and input my credentials the browser says "page not found" blah..

I'm using an Acer aspire 1830T-3425. I suspect it might be my laptop because others around me can connect to the network. Even though my laptop can connect to other networks like at my home and at the surrey public library!?!?!?!

Does anyone had any recommendations.

Thank you,

Adrian

  • You might have more luck asking some of the IT guys at school. They even got a chat online. I'd try calling them first and seeing whether they can help you out.
  • Sorry just read your SFU Secure issue, some reason I thought it was internet.

Are you sure you set everything up properly? SFU Secure requires you to download some stuff onto your laptop and set things up. Based on your OP it doesn't sound like you did it:

Looks like they have an automatic installer now too. That's pretty cool.
  • I sometimes have that problem with SFUNET (and secure! baah! only sometimes will it actually connect even if its a strong signal, and with the auto installer). Are you using firefox? If you have chrome installed, try logging into SFUNET on there. Sometimes trying different browsers can help, I usually turn to chrome and the wlan login screen pops up right away. If this still doesnt work you're better off asking tech support.
