CMPT 373-473 or CMPT 475

edited July 2012 in General
Hey All, I am a Maths major but I am also very interested in software development and hope to attain a job in that field. My question is this; what is the major difference between the 275/276-373-473 route and the 275-475 route, and which would be more beneficial to a software developer?
I ask this because I want to be sure that I'm not being sheisted out of the gud learnin by taking 475 and not 373-473. Does anyone have any experience with this?
Thanks.

  • I've only taken 275 but it is a waste of time, you're not going to learn anything that will help you in the real world in that course. 373 looked way more useful, and Shermer is a great teacher(I had him for 379), but I don't have any first hand knowledge regarding that course. TBH the 276/373 stuff from Surrey just looks way more practical.
  • 373 is by far the best computing course I have taken at sfu. The lectures are very valuable/interesting, and the big course project it a great learning experience. I can't recommend it highly enough.

473 was kind of meh really. It is sort of a new course though so it may get refined over time.
