Business Admission/ Other Questions

edited April 2012 in General
I am currently a science major but I am not quite happy with this and I want to switch into business. I have taken some of the 9 lower-division courses required for business admission, but one course, BUS 251.....for a lack of a better word..."frightens" me. I was in it for three weeks and I found myself so incredibly confused I dropped out. The thing that worries me is that I actually TRIED to understand. I went and saw my TA and the professor...and I just.didn't.get.it. So because of this I was considering going to another college/university for a year such as UFV or Kwantlen where they have taken BUS 251 and split it into two separate courses and break up the material.

So now my question...finally (haha)

*Do you think it's stupid to switch out of SFU, take the course somewhere else (most likely getting a better grade in the course than I would at SFU) and then switch back into SFU a term or two later?* ....do you think SFU would even let me back in, even with a high GPA?

Oh and another question...

*If I suck at computers, will I struggle in BUS 237*...and *is BUEC 232 "death" if you are not a strong math student/not great at excel?*...or are these courses (with lots of hard work), ones you can actually do decent in?

If you answer this question, I'll be forever grateful!...and sorry for writing so much!

  • hi, I'm also attempting to transfer into business. The two business courses I'm currently taking this semester are bus 251 and bus 237.

BUS 251 : I'm taking this course with Anne Macdonald. It's a pretty easy course if you read the relevant chapter prior to lecture so you can better understand the material. Also, it is a good idea to practise the technical questions throughout the semester so you don't have to cram so much material during the exam periods. Also, take advantage of the companion site as it provides you with practise questions to help you ace the midterm. The midterm was also very straightforward and there were no surprises.

BUS 237: You don't need to be good with computers to do well in this class because the exams are purely memorization of business processes and terminology. We also have two exams on microsoft word and excel which you will be doing during tutorial. Assignments for the class are lengthy but they are assigned many weeks prior to the due date.

Key to doing well in these classes:

    1) Review a few times per week
    2) don't procrastinate

  • There's no reason why you should be transferring back and forth because if you put effort into studying and reviewing, you will do well in these courses
  • Yes I agree with what taeyeon said,
But also you should know that the GPA to transfer within SFU is lower than if you were from another school and tried to get into business.
  • This is the perecft way to break down this information.
  • This is a good start. Some questions are not quite saettd so they mean something to everybody or can be answered truthfully. Maybe tweaking it for the next time would be a good idea. One example: many (?most) people have attended college at a couple different schools. One of mine was in Cleveland but one was not.
