Internal Transfer to Kiniseology

edited October 2011 in General
I'm in Arts taking the 5 Kin courses to transfer, bio101 chem121 math154 phy101 and kin142.
I emailed the advisor what the average was for internal transfer, and she said 3.33 gpa..

that sounds way too high, especially when the bio class average i am currently is 63. (I'm at 65)

has anyone transferred to kin? is the gpa really 85% to transfer? Cuz then i'll need to think of another science to transfer =]

  • 3.3 isnt 85%... its more like 75%
  • Percentages are irrelevant. I've gotten A's (4.0) at ~70%. 3.33 is a bit high though, probably mostly due to the high demand. If a ton of students want to transfer to Kin, they have to increase the gpa requirement for the transfer process to be fair.
  • bump. anyone transfered to kin?
  • I transfered in last year.  I think it's probably closer to 3 in some semesters, but 3.33 doesn't sound unreasonable.  If you consider that they only let a handful in each semester, they pick the ones with the best GPA.

When I transfered I had a GPA of about 3.85 and an A- to A+ in all the required classes.  If you only have a 65 in BISC 101, you might have a tough time in KIN, since they're similar in many ways.  I hated biology (never took it in high school), but managed to get an A with hard work and maybe a little luck.  If you don't get in, have you considered Health Sciences?  It's somewhat similar, but would be easier to get into.  How are you doing in KIN 142?  Good luck!

(And 85% in science classes is usually an A-, almost an A, which is a 3.67 GPA).

  • wow... seems a bit intense, thanks!

  • I transferred in the Spring. I had around 3.5 GPA, but got a B- in Bio and B's in Chem (although it's not because I didn't understand the material, I just had bad time management skills) What helped my GPA were the courses I took before transferring, I got A's in arts electives and other first year science courses

Good luck! I agree with the poster above, maybe look into Health Science if that's something you think you'd want to go into just in case transferring into Kin doesn't work out.
