Should I go to SFU?

edited May 2011 in General
Can some of you tell me a bunch about the school, I am trying to decide if I should accept my offer.
How is the kin program? What courses do you have to take 1st year? How difficult is it? Is it a heavy workload?
How is the food and residences?
How is the social life? What is the school spirit like?
How are the facilities (particularly the science buildings)? The library?

Convince me as to why I should come!

Did you get an offer from UBC?
I cant speak about the Kin program but in all the other aspects that you listed, UBC is better. Not saying SFU is a bad school, but if those are the things that youre considering, UBC is probably better for you
  • I would say the biggest and most over looked aspect of going to school at SFU instead of UBC is the fact that at SFU it's possible to attend all of your classes without stepping foot in the rain. Similar to the design of YVR airport, various segments of the school are connected, effectively being under "one roof."

Living in Vancouver, and being in school during the 8 months that it rains the most, this is a significant factor in your overall experience at university. It's one thing to be too tired to go to your next class, but it's much worse if your soaking wet because you had to walk from the other side of the school.

At SFU, the only reason you need an umbrella is to walk from the parking lot into the school. There, you shake yourself off, grab a warm coffee from one of the many Rennaisance coffee kiosks around the school, and get on with your day. In my opinion, SFU has everything UBC has but better and newer.
  • Chemistry is just finishing up a really nice renovation.
