Taking a course at Kwantlen?

edited December 2010 in General
I had my Calculus final yesterday and bombed it. I'm afraid I'm going to fail the class overall, but would rather retake it at Kwantlen where I could get more one-on-one help and benefit from smaller class sizes. How would I go about doing this? Would the Business advisor even allow me to do so? Haven't seen NukeChem in a while, but I remember you mentioning that you took Calculus at a college after not doing so well in it at SFU.

If anyone has any stories to share of their experiences with getting transfer credits, feel free to share. Thanks!

  • you'll do fine, i passed math 152 with a 29/90 on the final
  • Well this is MATH 157, which is easier, and I'm expecting in the area of 35 out of 100. >_>

    ouch, that's pretty low lol...

check out this site as long as the class you take at kwantlen is transferrable, you can do it there.. make sure you clear it with your faculty advisor first though

  • Yeah, but how do I go about doing so. I know I can talk to the advisor, but I can't go see them until the 17th. So if I can find out a bit more before then, that would be better I think so I go there knowing what to talk about.

Would I have to apply to Kwantlen and pay the application fee as if I want to go there, take the one class, then drop out?

my bad, i didn't realize you were planning on taking it right away! you could always save for as a summer class, depending on availability. kwantlen is slack, you could literally wait till 1 day before class and still register, so i wouldn't worry

i had a panic attack once and thought i was gonna get kicked so i registered at douglas lol.. then when the exam marks came through i found out i did fine so i didn't enroll in any classes.. i lost the application fee of $80 but thats about it. actually now that i think about it, i'm probably still a registered student there for all i know lol
  • Yeah, if I have to retake it want to do so in the spring term, since I'm planning on doing co-op in the summer. I'll just wait until I get my mark back and decide from there.

    Thanks for the help :)
  • Someone from Kwantlen replied to your post on twitter:

  • Ah, thanks Simon. Didn't even know there was a TalkSFU twitter account, gonna go follow it now.
  • Don't you need a Letter of Permission to LEAVE SFU for certain courses?

I was told I could not go to ANY other school. That is unless I got permission from SFU to do so and to list which courses I wanted to do.

And you need 9 units already done at SFU.
  • Well I ended up getting a C+ in Calc, so don't need to retake it :P

And after this term is done I'll have 53 units completed, so that wouldn't be a barrier for me.
  • Good to hear that! Keep it up, and aim higher next semester ;)
