macm thomas shermer

edited November 2010 in General
Has anyone taken a class with thomas shermer before? I looked him up, but seems like there isn't much info on him.

I'm taking macm and he's teaching it. I thought I'd ask and see.

Maybe he is new and teaching his 1st lecture in macm?

  • I took MACM 101 with him in the spring, and I thought he was a pretty good prof. The class and material itself is pretty dull and difficult in my opinion though, but I'd say he's pretty nice and fair. Exams were hard. I think they were meant to be so you wouldn't finish in the time constraint, but they were scaled! Class average was probably 40% or something, and I think I got around 50% for my exams and ended up with a B in the class. :)
  • Really? I talked to another guy, who said he has him for a 3rd yr class and he was brutal. He didn't allow students to take notes on certain days they had quizzes etc..
  • Solid prof.

Course and material is abstract and difficult, the textbook doesn't help at all. Took the course using better written textbooks about the topics. Got an A- in the class.
  • @Sotrashy
Which better textbooks would you recommend for the MACM you took? Was it for MACM 101? And what was your class average?
    Thanks!
