Business students, some advice please!

edited March 2010 in General
So my registration date is coming up soon and I have a question. I plan on doing MATH 157 and BUEC 232 together this summer, but my friend in business said not to because it'll be really hard and I'll likely confuse the material between the two of them. Would you agree with that assessment? Also, would taking MATH 157, BUEC 232, ECON 105 and SPAN 102 DE be a challenging term? I don't want to completely hate my summer.

Thanks a bunch in advance

I’m not a BUS student, but I’ve taken three of the courses except SPAN. IMO, the three courses are not too difficult but absolutely time-consuming. I don’t recall any parallel between 157 and 232, but still if you want to get a good grade, you need to work very hard, and you do realise it’s summer.

I don't think any of those courses are hard. BUEC232 is really easy... honestly.
Then again it really depends on your ability. But then again I'm one of those people that think 5 courses per term is easy.

Also: Summer tends to murder class averages. If you're smart you'll come out ahead of the curve in math 157 and buec 232, both courses that sound like they benefit students that can keep ahead of their peers. :)

Well I thought that ECON 105 and BUEC 232 would be fairly easy. ECON 105 is with Eldar Sehic, who tests only on his lecture notes (and your entire mark is based only on two midterms and a final). BUEC 232 is with Michael Johnson, who is much better than George Zhang if Rate My Prof is trustworthy. I know that 157 is going to be a lot of work for me, and I've never heard of the prof before (Roland Whittler). I already know Math is not my strongest subject, but I wanted to take it in the summer when the class average will probably be lower, like NukeChem mentioned.

Honestly, I'm fine with working hard this summer. I'm going to be starting my second year in September and I have no Business LD courses completed yet (though I am in ENGL 105W this term). So I want to go full-time so I can do like ECON 103 and BUS 251 in the Fall and then BUS 272 and BUS 237 in the spring and apply for admission to the Faculty that term.

That sounds like a good plan to me. You already got things planned out, then you should really go for it.

You won't confuse math 157 and buec 232 because the materials are different. One deals with calculus and the other...is just intro to statistics. You will not use calculus in buec 232 and vise versa.

There's a lot of stuff to learn here, but I'm sure you'll have no problem. Work harder than your peers, then you'll be fine. And don't forget to have fun while doing it.

Calculus and Stats in one term... I'm gonna have a fun summer! (/sarcasm)

Oh well, needs to be done. I went to about two weeks of calculus lectures earlier this term and genuinely found some of it interesting, so hopefully it won't be all that bad.

Also, for the fourth course (which I'm currently thinking of SPAN 102 DE), any other recommendations for easy classes? I've already taken CRIM 101 and I'm currently taking HSCI 160, so those are out. Like are there any KIN courses or CRIM DE courses that aren't too bad? Any recommendations would be nice. :P
