Forum Upgrade to vB 3.8.4

edited December 2009 in General
Hey all, hope the fall semester was fun and that you're enjoying the holidays!

I see everyone's been having some great discussions online, which is great to see. The value of talkSFU is firmly rooted around community, discussion, and the freedom to voice your opinions. These are all things that we as a team try to maintain and improve, which is why talkSFU has always been a great place for SFU students to interact.

With that said, we're always trying to make it better both on the technical side and the social side. This weekend we completed a significant upgrade of the forum software from vBulletin 3.6.4 to vBulletin 3.8.4. vBulletin is a great forum software with lots of functionality, and has served our needs well so far (since 2006). The latest upgrade brings a lot of new features to the backend, and many security and speed enhancements. Most of you probably won't notice the change, but it's definitely going to make the forum better. If you do notice any bugs or problems, let me know in this thread and we'll fix em up.

The next step, which has been in the planning stages for quite some time, is to add a fully functional CMS on top of the existing forum. This will take talkSFU to a whole new level, as we'll be able to display new types of content. Some of it will be useful (job postings), some of it will be funny (comics), and some of it will simply be informative (student written articles). Most of all, everything will be relevant to you as an SFU Student.

Hope to have these new features available soon. Until then merry christmas, happy holidays, and all the best for the new year!
