so i think i'm gonna fail one class and pass the other two. i'm on ap already and my cgpa is 1.860...and no matter how well i do in class my sem gpa and the C-gpa are still gonna be under 2.00.

i don't know what to do! should i take the back on track program? or should i go to another school til i can get back in?

if i take the back on track program can i still take classes for spring 2010?

if you get on the back on track program you cant take classes the first semester your in that program and you have to attend pretty much self help classes on time management and how to study etc....and the second semester max classes is 2.

...does that mean i'll still get a upass? and how will i be able to register in the program? and how many times a week would i need to go?

They're probably going to beat you.

um, dont kick someone when they're down.

Anywho, my advice for you pinkcoke is to talk to an academic adviser.

If you do end up being kicked out, don't take classes and apply back to SFU again.

reason is when you come back, you won't be starting off on a fresh slate, you'll be CONTINUING from your cgpa that's below 2.0.

Might as well just attend another school and start off fresh, more motivation to get to UBC etc

Yeah just talk to a counselor.

I feel bad but how do you let yourself get below a 2.0 again when your already on AP?

If you had an extenuating circumstance then I apologize but if not then you have no one else but yourself to blame. Party less and study more? In all honesty....it takes little effort to pass a course, nevertheless fail. I think you'd have to go out of your way to fail, i.e., doing nothing on purpose.

To be fair, mental and psychological readiness is also a key point. I was RTW'ed after being on AP for a semester back in 1994. I went away and did stuff at BCIT and got a chemical engineering 2-year diploma, after which I worked for a few years. Went to Langara in 2001 to bone up on my calculus, reapplied to SFU and since then I had a pretty nice solid GPA. :teeth:

Sometimes it takes a bit of a mental change of gears to get into the mindset of being able to grasp and analyze concepts presented to you in university. Do not be afraid to tell your parental units you are going to find a job and work for a year and then apply to a college before you go back to university. If nothing else, working at a job gives you a feel for what it's like to have a regular routine and that will help when you go back to school. :)

my gpa has been steadily dropping (hoping this semester will fix it a bit), couldn't imagine getting my cgpa below 2 though.

I have a friend who did the student success thing and he seems to be doing better this semester, he just says it's because he's got better teachers though..

my GPA's been on a rollercoaster ride since transferring to SFU ... right now it's on a massive drop, hoping somehow I can climb back up before i graduate hahaha

i started out okay in for my 1st semester at SFU.. then my GPA hit rock bottom for the 2nd semester as i had worst profs for 2 of my classes.. went on AP for 1 semester and then got out of it the semester later.. AP was quite the reality slap for me.. made me realized that the level of play in uni is different and requires more effort... since then my GPA/CGPA has been rising steadily but it literally took me 3 years to my CGPA back to where it started out..

hence.. do not worry as this is just a phase.. albeit the initial stage is quite mind blowing.. it will pass.. =) and if the situation is like what illicit stated then maybe you should consider other institutions or the back on track program.. but before doing all that.. talk to an advisor as other members have suggested.. so you know what you're getting into before making that decision..

    good luck!

Don't listen to the above people. Stay in SFU and do the back on track program. We all slip academically from time to time, don't lose your faith over a few bad experiences. You can do it!

Just tell your parents the truth about the back on track program. Lying just continues bad habits!

The Back on Track program is a way for the school to continue siphoning money out of you. They know that students that get in to the program, won't get out so they keep charging you student service fees, their overpriced books, and student counseling fees without lowering their standards of who gets to learn at SFU.
