i don't know any of you experienced the swine flu scare yet.. but being subjected to prolonged fatigue for the last 2 weeks my body finally gave way on wednesday.. i started displaying flu-like symptoms and was worried i have been "swined" :omg:

thank goodness it wasn't..and after sleeping like pig for the past 2 days my symptoms are gone..

but yeah.. purely FYI purpose.. there's a comparison table inside that i thought would be useful for everyone

take care and good luck on midterms!

I have a cousin that works at a local hospital. According to him, every case of the flu is now treated as the swine flue as too many people have it now, and they can't be bothered to test for every case.

if you have a huge killer headache and sore throat within the next month or so, 90% chance it will be the HINI since it is like the "common cold" but our immune system has not seen this before so that's why they recommended staying put for 7days (thats when you make antibodies for the HINI)

@nicole: honestly.. i'm not too concerned that i'll die from it.. so those who are really paranoid can go get it first.. i can wait.. besides.. i'm a baby when it comes to needles.. =x

I'm only worried about the side-effects in the future.

I'm not concerned about what would happen if I got the flu, but for the sake of everyone else I would come in contact with to further spread it....I think I'll be getting the shot. I mean, the purpose is to stop to spread of the virus I suppose, so it makes sense for me!

I don't know if I'll get a flu shot. It would suck to be the one in a million that gets crippled for life. For those of you who haven't seen the cheerleader:

It sucks that that happened, but I don't think it's really a legitimate concern / reason not to get the shot. The odds are so low you probably have equal/greater chances of the flu having weird serious complications

(that being said, i doubt i'm getting the shot anyway)

I got the Swine while doing exchange in Hong Kong this Summer. @ first feels just like a flu cause you get a light fever and feel weak.. but then after a few days it kicks in, and I got such horrible cold sweat and shiver at night like a coke addict...... Tamiflu wasn't avaiable yet so I had to take antibiotics which didn't help much but make me even more sick and weak... took me like 10 days before i got better.. @ least it helped me lose 13 pounds hahaha

I drove by the clinic and there was litterally a whole line up yesterday.. yet 99% of them weren't elder/children or pregnant, most were just regular middle age folks

how many days did it take before the real deal kicked in? lol I've only been having the light fever so far for past 2 days... barely noticable except for slight lightheadedness for the first day... still coughing pretty badly tho

    I'm taking tamiflu, though.

Do you really know what "Halal" is? It is ridiculously absurd to see people misuse words out of context.

I actually went to Macau and then got the light fever/headache/dizziness after the day i returned. At first I thought it was a cold, but after day 2, i started getting mad cold sweats and shivers. So much that I barely got any sleep time.

I took antibiotics and other pills (like 7 other pills cause in HK/Asia they love giving you an assortment of pills) which did almost nothing but just helped me lower my fever for a few hours (it was at 100C constantly)...

so after a week, i retook a stronger antibiotics, and started to feel better. But man, it was the worst week i've experienced !

Now, I may not be a med/bio student, but I know that antibiotics kill bacteria.

The swine flu, being a virus, would be unaffected. So either you didn't have H1N1, or the antibiotics "working" was just a coincidence.

Also, considering that Macau only has about 450 probable cases of swine flu at the moment out of a population of 500 000, the odds of you picking it up there aren't that high - at least not too much higher than in Vancouver.
