I actually went to this guys wedding party a few years back...there was police security all around the hall within a 2 km radius. These are all older guys left over from the days of Bindy Johal and the Dosanjh Brothers...things were much worse back then, there was some brown guy getting shot down almost every day.

Yah, I can't believe this shit is still going on. These guys are still looking for revenge, years after the fact.

I haven't heard of any new gangs coming up in the indo canadian community so I think its pretty much dying out, temporarily at least. Bindy Johal spawned a lot of fucked up kids though.

do u seriously think i feel bad about him getting shot? its not just affecting the person who got shot. its affecting their whole families and the community(which is pretty much sweeping the issue under the rug).
I think a large part of the issue is the family and community surrounding the individual(s), so I would likely not feel bad for those in question.

I think you have a flawed view on an ENTIRE community. It's usually the kids who are fucked up and do it to themselves. The family can be the ones to get part of the blame once in a while but its highly situational if you ask me. There are some parents that try anything to get a kid out of gang activity. Some can't deal with it anymore and just kick their son/daughter out. Negligence on behalf of the parents can be blamed too, but like I said, situational.

The real community is not bad at all. All the corrupt "leaders & spokespeople" are fuckheads who would do anything for money.

hooo fuck, haven't heard the name Bindy Johal in a long, long time.

    :)

lazyGUY, I didn't want to generalize an entire community, but I think in 99.9% of situations, great parenting and early family involvement would fix plenty of these problems. As an example, my cousin's husband's family moved to Alberta when he was in high school because his brother clearly had a drug problem & was involved in a gang. Picked up and moved just to get him in a rehab program. That was their last resort, they did it, and he's happily married with great kids now. I think the problem is that a lot of families, and possibly even communities, find it easier to just ignore it rather than resolving the issue.

    I might be wrong though.
  • edited October 2009
not everyone has the capabilities to move. the rehab part is a good idea though.
  • edited October 2009
They didn't have the monetary funds to move at all. It was family over material.

it does happen in other parts of the world, just not with indo-canadians. btw its not just indo-canadian parents who would do anything for their children. alot of east asian parents do the same as well. heck i'm sure any loving, caring parent would do their best for their kids.

if those parents are working blood, sweat and tears to give their children all they could need or want than it seems that its the childrens fault isnt it?

no offence, i'm sure you're not one of these types of people but alot of indo-canadian people i know, including my friends, act like they got beef with everyone and everything. stare down ppl for no reason, get loaded and fuck around. tough guy gangster mother fucker types.

there is the flip side. hard working, hard studying, make your parents proud type indo-canadians.

there are assholes in every race no matter where you go.

its no one elses responsibility. those kids are the ones who decide to try to get rich quick selling drugs and weapons. kill each other over turf wars or money.

judging by the 1991 in your name maybe you're too young to remember but before indo-canadians started offing each other over silly things it was the asians. viets and chinese knockin each other off over the same shit that indo-canadians are doing now. straight up to the late 90s and into 2000.

guy in richmond got shot and killed in his car. he drove into a brick wall across the road from where he was trying to flee and was dead. they chased after the car, emptied 30+ rounds into him and shot him in the face so his parents couldnt give him an open casket funeral.

shit happens dude. if you're concerned about your friends fucking up and getting killed maybe you can talk to them and get some sense into their heads.

    who knows.

one things for certain, its only gonna get worse before it gets better.

i dont think thats what she was implying. seems more like the sweep under the rug thing that you mentioned yourself earlier in the thread.

there's a lot of fucked up issues in the community so i wouldn't be too surprised if ppl miss a few.. gang violence is a common one.. and it runs through a lot of communities.. people.. or atleast i think.. are desensitized by hearing about it all the time that they just don't care anymore.. until it actually hits too close to home..

i don't give a damn about gangs.. they can duke it out all they want but do it within your own turf and with the people you have a beef with.. cause nothing makes me fly off the handle more than reading about innocent casualties or bystanders getting shot/killed cause they have a bad aim..

and i can tell you that nicole did not have such views about your community.. nor do i think anyone here does actually.. if i can be so bold to say so..

not really related but back in the day we used to get called dirty hindu, paki all the time. my parents suffered from extreme racism back in the day. my cousin who is significantly older was telling me how kids would call him paki all the time and how some white guy called him a paki and threw a beer bottle at him. i grew up in a mostly chinese/viet school and from grade 1-4 i felt ashamed that i was indo canadian because of all the mean things kids said to me. my dad drove a taxi and i was kind of embarrassed when he dropped me off. in grade 7 i absolutely beat some white kid who was being racist and almost got kicked out of school. today nobody and i mean nobody has the balls to call me paki or hindu ever.
Edit: i think when i started high school i have never ever heard a racist slur in real life against a south asian(excluding muslims though... but i dont think they count as south asian...)
here's a quote from some documentary i read

so pretty much bindy is inspirational to a lot of young indo canadian males. even though he was a scum bag at least white people wont fuck with us.
    I read this:
    http://www.primetimecrime.com/Recent/Organized%20Crime/He%20ran%20a%20death%20squad.htm

On Bal Buttar earlier this afternoon when Bindy Johal's name was brought up. And guess what it said in there? He basically said, he was being picked on throughout adolescence so he got tough, beat people up and intimidated people. Then people started doing what he wanted them to do. This eventually led him to get incarcerated, where he by chance, met Bindy Johal.

Not saying that you share his story (never too late to start though!) considering you are probably not a student by day and mobster by night. I just wanted to point out just how stupid you sound in that post. Your mentality is basically the starting stages of how gangs would start imo. (ie. resorting to violence, banding together if necessary to demonstrate your power over others, etc.)

oh, and please dont even try to pass off Indo-Canadian gangs as a result of racism

I actually wasn't talking about race at all...I don't understand why you're being so defensive?

I would recommend that the thread doesn't go off track and bring up race-derived events, especially those that include "beating up white guys". I think it's a decent discussion and definitely doesn't need ridiculous stories. God knows there's racism everywhere, it's inevitable.

sorry i should have been more clear but i meant nobody has the balls to call me hindu or paki anymore is because they are scared now(not because i beat some guy up in elementary school). not that it matters though.
whats wrong with being called hindu...? i understand paki but hindu.?
  • edited October 2009
well ya i understand that if your not actually hindu than being called hindu might not be welcome. sometimes people make mistakes as in they're not calling you hindu to offend you, rather its a case of mistaken identity.

people call me chinese, or viet, or japanese or philipino all the time except im none of those lol.

Is that quote from warrior boys? That was the stupidest documentary ever made. None of those guys are gangsters and even the teachers were full of shit.

Gangster wannabes are now "warrior boys".

^ word, despite never meeting him.

I mean it is totally understandable for wanting to be the boss when you've been picked on your entire adolescents, however, this trend has definately carried on for too long. I mean the whole Bindy Johal situation was the result of a ruined childhood, but the rest of the people act like they're top dogs regardless.

This isn't solely directed at the indo community, because I mean, you go to metro and you see all these 100 pound vietnamese guys acting like they're the shit. Or places like the old arcade at RPM, if you beat the wrong people in max tune, they'll threaten to kick your ass.

Anyways, the point is every community has their idiots. I just wonder when they'll finally rid themselves, and how many bystanders they'll take with them.
