09-10 Vancouver Canucks Thread

edited October 2009 in General
Since the last thread is at 58 pages, I thought I'd start a new one for this year.

What do you guys think of the Canucks prospects for the upcoming season? Think the long term deal for Luongo was a good thing? Think Sergei Shirokov could be the next Pavel Bure? What about Sundin, do you think he'll be able to carry the team through to the Playoffs again? Any other additions you think the Canucks need to make before they can make a real run for the playoffs.

It should be an interesting year, that's for sure!

Anyone going to the training camp at UBC this weekend?

I'm in the office full-time, so the players are starting to trickle in. They were all in to shoot some photos for the upcoming Dice and Ice...everyone looks happy and pumped for the season!

So, Sergei Shirokov is pretty good. That second goal was goal scorers goal.

Sundin is a free-agent and is not planning a return to the NHL. So no, I dont think he will be carrying the Canucks this year in any part of the season/playoffs.

I am anxious to see how Luongo's meltdown last playoffs will affect him during the beginning of this season. I expect to see a nearly perfect Luongo this year.

However, being the leaf fan that I am, I am more concerned with the Phil Kessel to Toronto rumours in circulation right now.

now that the deal is done, curious to see how you feel about it; i can see the upside potential from leaf's perspective, but imo seems like a very hefty price to pay for it

They ripped it up in the preseason! Hopefully it carries over into the regular season, but unless Shirokov turns out to be the next Pavel Bure, I don't really see them excelling :P

Well 0-3 to start the year and although there are good things being done i kinda expected the canucks to stumble out of the gate. Luongo isn't playing like he was in the preseason and he needs to up his game. The second line is nonexistent and Kesler has not even shown up this year yet. The sedins will need to finish more plays instead of looking for the perfect play and the team needs to get thier many shots on goal actually on net and finish the chances.

Montreal tmr and that will be a big game. Pretty much a should win on paper but we'll see.

I think if the first 3 games have told us anything is that this team can be VERY good if they can get all the little kinks worked out

Like Justin said, 2nd line showing up to play, Luongo stopping pucks again, better defensive coverage, etc.

Poor starts to the games aside, the Canucks have put up 35 shots or more in all 3 games (35 vs Colorado, 41 vs Columbus and 42 vs Calgary I believe?)
