SA 150 with Ann Travers

edited November 2009 in General
Can anyone who's taken SA150 with Travers tell me what the Take-Home Final Exam is like? Is it a project or term paper or something?

Project. Must include everything that was discussed during the semester. That's pretty much the only guideline she gives you. You can make a poster, comic, book, etc.

Hm... interesting. I'd probably rather do a paper, but life doesn't always work out how you want it to. Definitely wouldn't do a comic after my Law 12 teacher made fun of me for my terrible drawings in my comic about arson. hahah

I just took the course this summer and we could only do a poster. She gave you no guidelines (just the size of the poster) and you were pretty much left on your own to be creative and include everything in the course.

Anyone who has taken this course before know what her midterm was like? Fairly straight forward? easy?

What types of things did people do? I'm so lost as to what I'm going to do...

And yeah, some ideas about the Midterm would be nice, since it's on Monday. :P

You mean like Symbolic Interactionism? I think we have to know the basics about that... I have a feeling the essay will involve applying a sociological perspective to the issue of TV (like structural functionalism and social conflict). Just a hunch that I hope is right... I'm not positive though.

I think we should know them. Those steps are just asking to be part of a question. The only issue is that there are so many to remember! D:

I don't know about you but I COMPLETELY overstudied for that test. It was so... general. The little details barely mattered at all (though mentioning little things like sublimation and such will look good).

Easy though. Not too worried anymore about the next midterm (though that is still a month and a bit away).

yeah. i fiished at like 1:50

I took until about 2:15 because I was looking back over my essay. There was only one question on the short answer that I found slightly confusing (the four marker about deviance and power).

Second midterm I found hard, but I got 84% on it. o_o
Ann is one of the easier profs I'd reckon. She gives out bonus marks like candy.

First midterm we got a bonus mark for putting our base group on the front page and were promised a 2% boost to our overall mark if the class average on the second midterm rose.

Class average was the same for the second midterm, 72%. Again, a bonus mark was given for putting your base group on the front. And because she realized a question that shouldn't have been on there, everyone got the 2 marks that that question was worth, bumping the average to 75% and giving the entire class the 2% overall bonus.

Gotta love her. I was so stoked!

Still thinking of ideas for the project too Fiona. So many possibilities.
