Has anyone opt out of certain SFU fees?
Has anyone tried to opt out of the $3 to the Simon Fraser Public Interest Research Group, $4.90 to The Peak, and $3 to CJSF fees before? I know it's not much, but that is $10.90 which I could use for a meal. I also don't support the bullshit in The Peak and also the crappy radio station that no one listens too unless you are walking outside (south side) of West Mall trying to get to the gym.

I think it's complete garbage how we have to pay these miscellaneous fees for things or for services we don't need or use. Add that to the increase in tuition fees and the dental and health plans and it becomes ridiculous. Don't forget meals and textbooks as well :[
For example, SFPIRG and the Women's Centre, or the GLT club (I forgot the name)... you just walk in and ask for your money back, and they don't ask any questions. It's like $3 each or something.
You can also opt out of Rec fees too, you hafta go to the Rec office to do that.
As for the health plan, Ihaveaplan.ca will update their website in August on how to opt out for this coming year (starting Sept 09-Aug10)
If you go to the rec you can get you're fees back? No questions asked?
Man I didn't know that. I always wondered why they force people to pay for shit they don't use. I go up to burnaby just wanting to do the classes and bounce home.
I think its helpful because it keeps the campus alive, with an already basically dead social life at SFU. That said, The Peak really is crap. First with JJ as editor it was just all offensive BS, now its almost hit the other polar extreme being too boring. There is not enough political content, and way too much boring shit.
