My friend stopped getting her period (maybe once or twice a year) because she's a hardcore athlete.
  • edited June 2009
^^ whats the whole scientific deal with that, she stopped producing enough progesterone and estrogen to have her period??
does a girls testosterone level spike up when they work out too much?
or did she take a testosterone injection? is she on steroids? have her balls shrunk? I need answers!!

and im surprised no one said this...but abstinence is the only safe sex!!!

I believe it is something to do with athletes having a low level of body fat?

But I am a male so I lack any real knowledge in the period area.

I have a friend who went through the same thing. She stopped the whole hardcore thing two years ago, and even now she still only gets her period once every two months. Crazy!

have any of you girls experienced missing your period for a couple of months because of stress? =\

@predator: it is because it means her hormones are probably whacked and hence she isn't menstruating regularly.. but then again.. every body is unique so it might not be such a big a deal if it isn't causing her any problems?

There have been a couple of months where I get two days of spotting rather than the full 4 - 5 days, and then nada. Not exactly MISS it...

As long as it's directly BC related I'm cool with it but it does seem to have turned into a period related derail now. Maybe that needs its own thread?
  • edited June 2009
Maybe let it.... run its own course
  • edited June 2009
We should just.... go with the flow.

I've skipped a month here and there. A year or two ago I was totally off and that stressed me out.

Crazy thing. My best friend was in Peru two months ago, and she got two periods in one month...literally two weeks within each other! It was something to do with elevation, but crazy huh!

I've never missed a period... but some have been lighter/heavier and shorter/longer. Always around the same time though.

God damn it guys make a period thread or something unless you can relate your periodchat to safe sex somehow.
  • edited June 2009
Haha... this thread is so amusing.

In regards to people missing their period due to being super athletic, getting your period also has a lot to do with your weight. If you fluctuate in weight or suddenly gain or lose weight, it may disrupt the regularity of your period. I had my period coming every two weeks at one point -- totally irregular. I went to the doc and now I'm on BCP and it is totally regulated, yay!

And FYI: you can still get pregnant while having unprotected sex on your period. There, now all this period-talk is related to safe sex!

what of the safe and unsafe days where the sperm can't fertilize? I want to know more how you girls regulate this time of the month.
  • edited June 2009
lol.. well predator it is a biological phenomenon that most females have to deal with in the next 40-50 years.. it wouldn't do us much good to think of it as embarassing and shameful.. =P

I'm pretty sure days of ovulation differ amongst girls...

And yes, there are guys who will stick it in no matter what. Or they just enjoy the extra "wetness" and warmth that period blood brings.

God is the Almighty, whom we have no power to associate Him with gender. God is who, with due respect and fear, we worship Him, the most gracious and the most merciful. Period.
  • edited June 2009
yeah...and girls are to bleed/cramp on a monthly basis? lol...gee i don't know about the gracious and merciful on that part.. i think i have every right to associate him with a gender when in fact it has already been decided way before my time.. noticed that everyone calls god a him but never a her? i'm just following the books..=)

God is a figment of our imagination made by man and is now being destroyed by man through technology and science.
